Newbe's DEF question

Been RVing for 28 years but now is a first for me to deal with the DEF stuff in my new DP. At Wal Mart, is there any difference in quality or desirability between the Blue DEF at $11.97/jug and Wal Mart's Super Tech at $8.97/jug? With that much difference in price I didn't know whether or not the Super Tech brand should be avoided.

I don't think there is any difference in quality. I have used the cheaper brand from Walmart recently without any problems ... yet.

I take my time and wait for an open lane at a truck stop, pull in backwards, and out in under 5 minutes. At $2.79 a gallon, a LOT cheaper than Walmart!

The cheaper one at Walmart is only $3.59 a gallon. I have yet to pull into a truck stop that wasn't so busy I could pull in the wrong way.

Would be nice if the truck stops had DEF pumps on both sides like they do the diesel pumps. Noticed when I was in O'Reilly's this afternoon here in Colorado that they were selling the Blue DEF for $14.99/jug. Wonder how many jugs they sell at at that price?

Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), commonly referred to as AdBlue in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, and standardised as ISO 22241 is an aqueous urea solution made with 32.5% high-purity urea (AUS 32) and 67.5% deionized water. DEF is used as a consumable in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in order to lower NOx concentration in the diesel exhaust emissions from diesel engines.

Probably quite a few! There are quite a few cars with diesel engines, MB's BMW's, VW's, just to name a few.

Okay, never mind, I just looked it up. My 2001 apparently doesn't require it.

We've been eyeballing new rigs (2016s). The chassis manufacturers have started moving the DEF tank to the driver's side. So far anything we've looked at has the tank in this new location.

Next time I'm in Walmart I'll have to look for their store brand, I've not noticed it to date. It's only pure water with a specific percentage of urea added. Anyone with the proper equipment should be able to mix and bottle it.

If you buy DEF at Walmart check for the seals are not broken people return it filled with water. The Super Tech is easy to unscrew the top and check for the seal. I also would rather purchase it at the truck stop.
Good Luck
JP

Our 2015 Ventana has the DEF tank on the drivers side.

And to the OP's question: DEF is DEF as long as it's not been tampered with and is fresh. The performance shouldn't differ from brand to brand. It has a limited shelf life and will degrade over time.
