Purchased our pre-owned coach from Midway in Grand Rapids, MI and have had service work completed there. Both experiences have been great.

Cheers

I look at Newmar’s lists and just shake my head. I really would like to understand the metrics they use and more so to be able to trust them.

I would trust the experience of folks on this forum first. I know there is a web site out there that tracks this, and will probably be reminded again about it.

I think the ratings are so subjective and radically subject to change on each purchase to be useless. JMHO.

JMH, have you had a bad experience with on of the dealers on Newmar's list? if so, can you tell us about it?

I agree, I give high precedence to the opinions on here, though, I am sure Newmar gets customer feedback on their dealers, as well.

OP, Look up “adventures of newbee” on the forum for voluminous data. If you ask some Newmar employees about their dealing with some of Newmar’s premier dealers you would be surprised. No I won’t tell you who at Newmar, but much of this info is the worst kept secret here on this forum.

That said, I just bought my new coach from Transwest in Frederick. Some on this board think any Transwest location are hell-holes. My experience is mixed. The sales staff treated me fairly (Grant Russell). The chassis maintenance shop is professionally run and does a good job. The coach side well, hit or miss, and the management can be less than welcoming. In his defense, the lead an I wad a tense exchange when one of his service leads lied to me not once, but three times. He did correct the issue and the employee is not there now. As you might notice, I don’t like being lied to.

My personal experience with Guarantee in junction city was bad. Between the out right lies, and them trying to change the agree to price at the last minute (even told me the salesman said that is what I asked for!) I will never do business with them. That said I have been told their maintenance side is one of the best.

As I said it all comes down to the person you are dealing with and if the owner is honest. Based on my un-scientific analysis, there are maybe 3-4 honest owners out there, and there are some sales folks that do the right thing even with bad owners.

No matter what, I have found Newmar stands behind their product. Are there some marginal techs at Newmar, you bet. The fact that the majority of workers are so good, make the marginal ones seem even worst then they really are. Team leads like Jonas (Ventana lead) have surprised me more than once with their extra effort to make things right.

Another vote for Midway RV in Grand Rapids, MI.
We had a nice sales experience and so far the service has been stellar.

For those looking for good dealer options (recurring theme on here), would you care to share your view on the 3-4 best owners out there. They won't be an option for all, but for those close to them (or willing to travel), it gives them a short list to be sure to check out.

I suggest you scan the forum for a complete list, along with customer opinions. I do not have personal experience with any of those listed. A couple that keep coming up are: Tom Lindstrum on the west coast; IRVC, and Coachlight.

Again my recent experience with Transwest (Frederick) was good. Others on this forum do not care for them.

Newmar Dealers

If looking to purchase a new or used Newmar, do yourself a favor and stop by or contact Tom Lindstrom in Moorpark, Ca. Theres a reason why he's consistently on the top 10 list of Newmar Dealers. He"s straight forward, low keyed, and will quote you his best price over the phone, no game playing. And he specializes in selling to individuals outside of California. I purchased my 2nd motorhome from Tom this year, i wish purchasing a car from a dealer was as easy as purchasing a motorhome from Tom!! (818) 383-8895

Hate to sound like a broken record, but believe when people go out of the norm for you should give credit where credit is do.

After about a month with our coach, we got a call from Spartan about a possible issue with the Tag Air Bag. Thought the call was a nice touch since we were away from home enjoying our coach. Spartan made some calls and setup an appointment with a Spartan Dealer in Kenly, NC (on our way home) What a 'you know what' disaster, after removing our golf cart (on a Hydra lift) as directed, and waiting 2 hours we were told they could not work on our kind of coach, would have been nice to know before we took off the golf cart.

So back to Spartan who said they would setup an appointment in Harrisburg, Pa which is about 2 hours from our home.

Now for the NICE stuff, I was talking to my dealer about my appointment for some PDI related issues and told them the issue I was having getting the air bags replaced. Just so happens there is a Freightliner garage across the street from my dealer (Ansley RV in Duncansville, pa). Of course since they were not a Spartan dealer I thought I would be out of luck.

This is where the out of the way part comes in. My dealer thought it was ridiculous that I should have to go to Harrisburg, so through some sort of magic, my dealer got Spartan and Freightliner to make a deal to have my air bags fixed.

Never found out what was said, just dropped the coach at Freightliner, dealer picked it up and fixed PDI related issues and now I am just living the life.

I did get a follow up call from Spartan asking how the dealer got Freightliner to service my coach, but could not get a definitive answer, and honestly don't really care.

This kind of treatment is why I bought my second coach at Ansley's, more like dealing with friends than just a dealer.

We had never owned a DP before. Had fivers and then a gas coach. When we decided to take the "plunge" into a new DP we were concerned about the same things you are asking about.

We purchased from North Trail and would deal with them again. Great sales department and great service department. Even though we were camped all winter just a few miles from them after the purchase, it turned out that wasn't all that important. We ended up making an appointment this summer to stop at the factory and have a few minor warranty repairs completed.

Visiting the Newmar factory is an unbelievable experience. It was amazing for us to see how they support their customers and take care of issues.

When I was talking to Spartan about service in Arkansas, where they don't have any authorized dealers, he told me about an independent shop they use for warranty work, but also mentioned they are very flexible and even have Freightliner shops that service Spartans.

Actually, what you experienced is one of the things my dealer said about why he likes Spartan. He said that he's able to get them to approve warranty work by non Spartan shops, as long as they are qualified to do the repair.

When I hear things like this about a top rated dealership, it makes me think it is worth the six hour drive to get a better price and excellent service.
