Newmar Factory Tour Questions from a prospect.
Hello,
We are looking at the new Newmar Baystar Sport 3004 and as part of our research we are planning a trip to the factory to take the tour. For those of you in the know perhaps some you can provide some guidance. Do you have to call ahead for a tour or just show up at the posted times? Are there guides, customer service people to answer questions about a particular model? Is there a gasser tour versus a Diesel tour? And do they have models of their various units to see and review? Being a new model there aren't many on the net to look at and our local dealer does not have one. The closest one is about the same distance as the factory.
I would be interested in the same floor plan in the Baystar model but I don't really want to raise the roof on the existing carport to allow for it.
Thanks for any insight and info.

Having taken the tour several times last week, I'll share my thoughts. The tours start at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.; all you have to do is show up. All of the different units (gas vs diesel) go down the same line so you get to see how all of them are built. The tour guide is available to answer any and all questions but you may want to get with someone from sales to answer in depth questions relative to the specific model you are interested in. I found the morning tour to be more structured and the afternoon tour more laid back. In the afternoon the workers are usually gone and you have much more freedom to walk into the work area and see the work that's being down up close. You will be amazed how fast the units move from one tour to another. We took the tour four times while we were there. At the end there are usually four different coaches that are basically complete that are available to go inside. There was a different mix there each time we completed the tour and you never know which models will be there. Overall the tours are very worthwhile and a great experience for those who have one on order and are there to watch it progress down the line. Hope this helps and good luck.

The tours are exactly as Allen has said.
We enjoy both the morning tour and the afternoon tour.
The morning tour is perfect to see the process in motion and the care and concern the employees all have for the coaches they build.
The afternoon tour is a great time to study details of coach construction. You can check how, why, and where things are hidden so you can find them later if there is a problem.
We have been on the tour many times and recently attending every tour while our DutchStar was going down the line. I now have a much clearer understanding of the construction in case I ever need to get to something.

just took the 1pm tour today, yes, employees abound, though many were finishing up their shift, especially Amish, and heading home to their 'real' job! but, it's nice being able to walk on the same path as many of these employees as your see them work and see the massive vehicles(homes!) they are constructing... and a note - EVERY vehicle Newmar builds goes down the same line as every other vehicle, so your BaySport will have the same hands on it as the massive King Aire... nice.
looking to get one myself, maybe the Mountain Aire bunkhouse : )

Well, just took the tour. Very interesting and informative. Really impressed with they way they move these beasts around on a cushion of air. Saw plenty of the bigger ones and a few small Baystars but it was getting close to the end and had not seen the one I had hoped to see. Then we looked over towards an exit door and saw the exact model we're are interested in. I asked if we could go see it and the guide checked and said come on over. So we did get to see one we like after traveling over 700 miles.
Seeing it answered many more questions than the tour and web did. Also found out that we can swap fabrics and flooring between the Sport and regular Baystars but not paint.
Glad we came. Now for the decision.

Glad that you were able to see your coach and begin the very interesting and fun planning process. I second what NormMac says about learning where things are. My wife and I met he and his DW while we were taking factory delivery of our new coach.
Enjoy the process. Post your progress...and ask questions as they arise. There are many well informed and experience fed Newmar owners here!
