I hope you guys don't think I am asking too many questions, But if I have a question about my Dutch Star I will come here to ask, until I am told to shut up. Any way while looking at my hitch plug today I noticed that behind the plug they have 2 red wires capped off and taped back. are these 2 wires always hot? where do the go? what are they for?

They go to the dashboard and are auxiliary wires for electric trailer brakes, toad brakes or whatever you want to use them for.

Do you know if they are hot at the dash or capped off there so they can be made hot if I like? And are they pretty easy to find in the dash area?

I'm sure they are taped off at both ends.
Newmar is known for "hiding" these wires. Not really, but they can be in different places under the dash and hard to find.

I think this board is here for questions. Keep asking.
Look in the Newmar brochures. Those 2 wires are described as 2 extra 12v wires to use however you need them.
I'll probably use 1 to power some sort of battery maintainer when I have my toad set up. I've seen some designed for 12v power that mount under the hood of the toad.

My DS has them and I used them for my lube pump when towing our Camry. They were tapped off at both ends for me.

I would think that if I need to have 12V back to the hitch area i would fuse right out of the battery box at the rear. And use these 2 wires for like you said something else. Maybe for the toad brake monitor?

The wires worked for me because the lube pump has a dash mounted on/off switch and warning light/buzzer. Vacman is correct, if you just need 12V, get it right off the coach batt.

Why go through the trouble of adding another wire when Newmar has done the work for you? Now I would want to know that the wire gauge and fuse for this connection is adequate for the intended usage.
If you need power for 3 things back there, you can always power 2 things off of 1 wire, again, as long as the wiring and fuse are up to the task.
If you run a new wire to the batteries, make sure the wire gauge is appropriate and add an in-line fuse to prevent a fire.
