Wow 1000 units for backlog at 45 per week makes 22 weeks. So 5 months or so. Not bad as long as it does not get longer.

Hi chuckster52,
16 a day, not a chance. Even in the boom time of 04 to 07 Newmar was doing what they do now. Back in the last century when coaches were much simpler many more could be made in a day. Now the coaches are so complicated not as many can be produced as in the 70s through the 90s. There has been quite an improvement in Newmar manufacturing processes. This has allowed the 9 per day to even be dreamed about. There are some things that can not be speeded up without sacrificing quality. Paint is a good example. There is just so much that can be done to get paint to dry quicker.

Because Newmar mass produces in quantities of one, there is considerable customization in each coach. There can be up to 5 miles of wiring in a coach.

3. Paint preparation and paint from 3 to 21 days depending on the brand and model of coach.

GaryKD,

With the timeline you stated above and our delivery date of 8/3/17 to dealer. It would seem to me that it would go down the production line closer to middle or end of June. Does that seem like a reasonable thought? I just can't see it making a delivery date of 8/3 if the first run starts after July 4th shutdown. It seems like just QI alone should take a day or two, since they want to ship quality instead of making dealer handling QI repairs.

Hi Hmf23,
18 production (limited) will begin the 2nd half of June. During the 2nd half June and 1st half July 17s and 18s will be produced. Full production of 18's will begin in the middle of July.

Tiffin paint booths.

I believe Tiffin has 16 paint booths. We have been watching some youtube videos of their coach building. Nice coach but Newmar is our choice. If you are going to 9 per day they better increase painting potential. I have seen some comments about paint prep and over spray. All were fixable but lets hope the quality stays. Randy

I was thinking the same thing. Already getting harder to get a campsite, the more the airlines the screw up, the harder it gets....

Makes me happy I bought now and not in a year or two. Hard not to take short cuts if you are trying to maintain production goals. Even hiring new people, there is still a learning curve. But I am also glad to see Newmar having the demand problem. We are thrilled with our Ventana and have no plans on replacing it. It is a first class coach.

Newmar production rate

Gary KD - having been at the Newmar factory about every year since 1999 (18 years), I can tell you that in mid 2007 before the 'circus left town',Newmar was producing 15 coaches a day- 11 in the main Bldg 9 & 4 Essex in the 2 buildings to the west of present day visitors center. The Essex was selling lot hot cakes & had it's own separate assembly lines. Of course this all fell like a rock in late 2008 & continued on into 2009 getting as low as 3/week at the bottom of the cycle.

Quality suffered during this period & I actually delayed buying another new Newmar until they got their quality issues back under control.

Happy Trails

Hi Capt. Bill,
I stand corrected, thank you. Not being an Essex customer I never saw that line.

In the current environment my comments in post 16 remain true.

Her response was he's a lucky one as our coach is in Run #5 and shows delivery date to Steinbring as 8/3/17. I'm not exactly sure what run #5 exactly means and hopefully someone can give some insite. We are estactic at that delivery schedule, the only problem (if you can call it that) is the middle two weeks of Aug we wil be in Kauai. So we are looking at a trip 1st or 2nd week of Sept for pick up. Oh the wait....
We signed our Production Order on 5/11/17 for a 2018 DS 4369. I'm anxious to find out now if we have a Run number yet!

Just got an email back - we are tentatively scheduled in Run #9. August 31st. :( The wait is a killer!

Desertboyz,

Your dealer should be able to find out. You signed yours a week ahead of us and we are in run 5. Now I don't know how they fill these spots, whether a it's by Production order or initial order. From when we placed our order and finalized everything took us about 3 weeks. Ask your dealer to find out for you and they should be able to get a delivery date as well. We had our dealer ask as we have some fall plans that needed to be solidified and we wanted an idea on our coach delivery.

Hi,
There are several things that go into when your coach will be manufactured. Dealers will commit to manufacturing slots way in advance. When doing this they must also commit to pay for the coach going into that slot. Now you come along and sign an order. The dealer has a couple of choices.
1. Let your coach go to the end of the line.
2. Move your coach into a slot they reserved way in advance, for a spec unit.
3. Trade somebodies slot for your coach.

What does all this mean? When the order is signed; getting a slot begins. The details of what goes on behind the scenes?????

Let's pray the "Final Quality Control" is not affected by the increase in number of coaches built!
