I have a 2001 Newmar Mountainaire coach and the high beam indicator on the dash is staying on all the time the headlights are on no matter if it's on high beam or low beam. The indicator light will go out when the bar circuit is disconnected and the low beam lights appear to be quit a bit brighter. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I've had problems with the headlights on my coach with Freightliner Chassis.
If your coach is on F/L , I may be able to help.

Have you checked all four bulbs.....if one is burned out, it will sometimes give you a light (high beam indicator) telling you that you have an issue.

Bad ground on one light socket. Each socket should have a wire to ground. Check it's connection to the body metal.

The ground is finding its way thru the high beam filament and back feeding the dash indicator.

Is this a gasser or DP?

If it is a DP then it is a Spartan Mountain Master Chassis. I know that going back to at least 2006 there is a "Spartan Controller" in the bus bay outside below the driver's seat. This controller ties into all of the steering wheel controls including the operation of the headlight system. I don't know if the 2001 DP has the same but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

If it is a gasser then I'm not familiar with the headlight system.

What do you mean about the "bar circuit"?

Also, can you clarify exactly what is happening. Regardless of gasser or DP:

1. Does selecting and de-selecting high beam turn the high beams on and off as expected?

2. Does selecting and de-selecting high beams change the intensity of the low beams?

3. Have you measured voltage at all of the light bulbs as you select and de-select high beams? I suggest with engine running without shore power to validate voltage from the alternator matches (or nearly so) the voltage at the bulbs.

The only way the low beams would be brighter is if they are getting more voltage compared to before these symptoms occurred. That could mean they weren't getting proper voltage in the first place because they can't get more than what the alternator gives them. This assumes you have separate headlight bulbs for the low beams and the high beams. The other possibility is that if you have daytime running lights that the DRLs are working at "full power".

Hello Sky Boss, the coach is gas powered on a Workhorse chassis.
The high beam indicator stays on no matter whether the high beams are on or the low beams are on.
