Newmar or Freightliner issue?

My dash air compressor is cycling on and off rapidly (probably due to low refrigerant) and of course the dash air is warm. My Newmar warranty is gone, but the Freightliner warranty is still in effect. Is this a system that shares parts from each company and merged together? If so, I assume they will point fingers at the other and I'll end up paying for it.

basic chassis 3 yr / 50k miles warranty might cover it....

not sure if the dash A/C is excluded from that....those components are not newmar components, they came with the chassis from freight liner....

That's a good thing as I have my yearly service appointment at Gaffney in Oct. Thanks!

dash ac is freightliner. They do have a problem where the ac goes off and back on. However, it is not rapid. some elec issue where the compressor is turned off. along with that the marker lights also go off as well. They replace a relay or some elec component. it is a known issue.

The answer is it depends.

I have a dash A/C that blows warm when at idle.

FL help says some parts are Newmar and some FL. FL also said if there is a leak it will depend on where it is.

I had to go to FL anyway so they checked and found a leak in the coach side. Fortunately i am still under both warranties. Going to Newmar later this month.

I seem to remember hearing FL supplies the compressor and everything else is the coach builder.

If you are going to Gaffney and find it is Newmar I would consider having FL fix it. Gaffney has excellent service and discounted if you belong to the owner's club.

Mine started blowing warm air in year two. Freightliner checked the system and said it was low on Freon, but couldn't find a leak. They refilled it and said that often Newmar would not fill the system to full capacity. It worked well for another year and started cycling. I took it to a friend (leaving on a trip that morning) and it was low again. He refilled it and it's working. I felt it was unlikely that there would be a leak in the hoses hidden in the frame since it is so slow. No leaks up front and none at the compressor. Finally, I crawled under the side radiator and looked at the condenser. One of the lines going into the condenser was muddy (leaking). Panic took over as I looked and saw the hose is a nightmare to replace. I later discussed it with my friend and he said those hose ends have O-rings, so hopefully an O-ring replace is all that it will need.

Thanks all for the replies. I hope it's under the Freightliner warranty, but if need be, I do have an extended warranty (with deductible) that should take care of it. Can't wait to get back on the road for the next trip!
