I saw their list of services. It is obvious they have not checked their competition. For me, I'll let Spartan handle the chassis, Cummins the engine and Newmar the coach. Hopefully, I'll never need Allison to work on the tranny.

The interesting thing is Spartan is in Charlotte, Cummins is in Grand Rapids and Newmar is in Nappanee. They are all within a short drive of each other. They are all top notch shops. Cummins in Grand Rapids is across the street from Camping World. I'm not sure if this is good or not, but it does provide more entertainment than the Cummins customer lounge.

I made this tour this fall and was impressed at the work and dedication to customer sat at each shop.

Ditto ditto ditto on gary's recommendations. For all the exceptional things Newmar service does, they are just not set up for routine service. Period. Their pricing reflects that as well their routine-service service facilities. Poor 'ol Randy there has to HWH jack your rig on top of 4x4 blocks, secure it with jack stands, and then drag a big tub on a creeper underneath to do these routine things.

Do as gary says, Newmar HQ for the coach, Spartan HQ (just up the road) for EVERYTHING chassis, and Cummins ((BridgeWay) Grand Rapids or the (CrossPoint) Ft. Wayne shops) for engine. The Ft. Wayne shop sees many RVs, knows Newmar team well, and is not RV averse like the typical pure trucker Cummins shops tend to be.

Spartan is exceptionally well priced for the routine stuff (including buying the filters and parts). They also know what they are looking at and might spot anomalies before they turn ugly. I am an avid DIY'er for everything, but when I stopped by Spartan the other month for other things and they quoted something about $50 or so for the labor for a full transmission filter/fluid change, $30 labor for a hydraulic fluid/filter change and $30 labor for a differential fluid change where all the fluid pricing was in-line with my retail fluid pricing from other sources, it was a no-brainer to just have them do all three. I still do my own engine oil and analysis.

BTW, If you farm out your oil/filter changes, try a www.SpeedCo.com they are priced right, have Fleetguard filters, and are extremely well set up (both facilities and pricing) for routine oil and lube work.

In addition, Spartan does not service generators.

You need to go to Cummins or elsewhere for that.

Cummins in Grand Rapids has a separate facility that is dedicated to power generation products. This includes generators.

Cummins Coach Care up in Elkhart gives excellent service at a good price. They have hookups for RVs and don't care how long you stay.

You mean Onan Indiana? Onan Indiana - Onan Generators, Parts and Accessories

I called the Cummins Elkhart shop....they said they are industrial only.

The shop in Elkhart goes by both Coach Care and Onan Indiana. Here is a link to their website.

I was at camp Newmar in Oct to have some warranty work done. I did not have but 8,000 miles on it, but time was closing in on 1 year old. So, I thought why not do the I year/ 15,000 miles service.. Like ( check all, replace all mentionted filters, lube etc.) They told me the package price for this 1 year service was $1,600.00. Not knowing if this is good or bad, I told them to do it. I still don't know if this is a good price or not??

Do not currently own a Newmar, but have in the past. For your 1 year checkup, it sounds pretty high to me. What did they actually do other than change filters, fluids and lube? It was too soon for trans filters or fluids, power steering fluids or filters, radiator and Air Dryer (if applicable). It would seem that they would have done, fluid and filters for engine and generator oils, lube, fuel filters and air filter. About $350-$500.

When my 2005 DS was one year old and had 9,000 miles I stopped at Cummins Coach Care in Bakersville, CA. I replaced the fuel filters and serviced the generator myself and they did the rest. They charged about $242.

This price of $1,600.00 was not for any extra work.. I told them I wanted to do the oil and filter changes that would put the unit up to date.. They handed me a sheet that had a list of things they do.. Change filters, oil, fuilds, etc that is recommened by Spartan for the 1st year. Also on the list also was to ck the Ride Height, and wieghing all corners. They told me they have flat rate of $1,600.00 for all parts and labor. And that is all I paid. I thought it sounded a little high, But by being at the Newmar factory, I'm thinking it must be in line, because Newmar wouldn't gouge a new owner. If I had been at a regular Rv dealer I would have backed off. But maybe you even have to watch out for the Mfg. VACMAN
