It is being reported on the "other" Newmar forum that we can now order parts directly from Newmar.

I read that too, and wondered why Newmar would do such a thing to their dealers. After all, in these hard times, dealers have to make all the money they can. Also, what a pain in the neck (and additional expense), to return a part to Newmar when the wrong one is shipped.

I have no idea whether this is true or not, but this makes a lot of sense to me.
One way to handle it would be for Newmar to credit the dealer for a percentage of the sale price, cumulate these sales for a quarter, and issue the dealer a credit for the amount of parts sold to directly to his customers. You could cut out a lot of duplicated expense and efforts between Newmar and the dealers, reduce inventories overall, and improve customer service.
With an ever increasing number of dealerships closing these days, I could see where more and more things like this might revert back to the manufacturer to handle.

Fine if you have a dealer but here in Southern California there are no credible Newmar dealers. I had to order a part from dealer in Missouri and deal with a clerk out there who did not understand and sent the wrong item!

I called Newmar this morning and while I was waiting on hold, the recording reminded me that you cannot buy parts directly from Newmar and if that is what you are calling about you need to order from your nearest Newmar dealer. So if this is true it is not reflected on their telephone message. Go tired of holding and never did get to talk to anyone by the way.

I would welcome it , direct from Newmar, after trying to order floor tiles 3 times thru dealer I went by Newmar on trip and picked them up.
Checked Newmar ordering and there was never a order placed by dealer.

Hi! Great move by Newmar if it is true. When you are on the road and need a part, it sure beats finding a dealer willing to have a part dropped shipped to you. I am sure it will not hurt the dealer, that we may visit, for over the counter part sales. Paul

One can not order parts directly from Newmar. The confusion about this may be due to the new procedure at Newmar Rallies and Special Events. When Newmar techs are at a rally or special event, any customer can purchase a part (if it is in stock at the event). The customer will be given a bill and is expected to send a check to Newmar for the part. In addition, if the techs have time, they will install the part free of charge (easy installs and for non warranty coaches).

Gary, I'm glad you straightened this subject out. As I mentioned above, I could not imagine such a shift, given the economy, and hard times for the dealers.

Sorry Gary, but unless they have changed the policy again we DID order and receive parts direct from Newmar. Suggest checking with the factory if you need parts!
Probably the best decision they have made in the most recent past.

I did ask, when I was at the Tampa RV Super show. My post was based on the info provided at that time.

We also talked to the reps at the Tampa RV Show, they were unaware of the policy, stating that they were stationed in Florida.

I stand corrected. Newmar owners can purchase parts direct from Newmar. The story is:

Owners purchasing parts direct from Newmar is a test program.

The program started sometime in December of 08. Newmar was shut down for several weeks over the holidays. The program has really just started after the first of the year.

If an owner calls, they need to have their coach # or at least the last 6 digits of their VIN #.

Newmar has yet to provide a written return policy. Their past warranty on parts has been 90 days.[/list]
While this is good news for Newmar owners, if you want the test to become a permanent practice please be sure you know what you need and understand this is a test program.
Over a decade ago, Newmar sold parts directly to customers. It was discontinued due to high % of parts returned in a unsalable condition. This meant a high administrative cost to Newmar with no ability to recover the cost of the parts returned.
