Newmar Quartzsite 'Gathering in the Desert' for 2015

ONLY SIX WEEKS FROM NOW!! January 14-20, 2015
As in past years there will be the Subject gathering during January 2015. ALL NEWMAR Owners and their guests are invited to attend or stop by and visit. In the past few years we have had about 60 rigs rally with the group during the 'Big Tent' RV show in Quartzsite. This is a rather informal gathering on BLM land where we all dry camp together. No registration required and no rally fee! See the below website for a flier with activities already planned with more to come!
Quartzsite Gathering in the Desert

The above web link is public and should work for all INCLUDING the RSVP/registration which is very helpful for our planning numbers please.

In addition to the meals planned we expect to have at least three classes. One by Mac the Fire Safety Guy, one T-Shirt class and a Genealogy class.

For questions just post in this forum or directly to our Email address in the flier at the link above.

We have done so many "Gatherings" but wintering in Florida these days make this event this year not doable. :-(( However, for those who haven't been to this event it is really a Not To Be Missed event.

Maybe next year///

We were considering making this trip but heard thru some of the posts here that the Quartzsite Rally was way too crowded and over a million people attend, and that the local people steal things from RV's left unattended. Is any of this true, we would really like to attend but that info kind of made us think twice about it...Thank you

Let me speak of my experiences at Quartzsite by replying to what you have heard...None of this is true! Quartzsite eleven months out of the year is a very small town with a Truck Stop. But in January it booms! RV Dealers arrive, Vendors start putting up their tents and the Food Trucks arrive; along with lots of people.

As to the Newmar group, you are all camping together, IN THE DESERT, maybe 50 coaches all in the same area. There's always someone from the group around. "There is safety in Numbers." You will be safe.

Yes the Quartzsite event is crowded, especially the first couple of days. We found that going early was a pretty good way to get decent parking and avoid the worst of the crowds. BUT, this is part of the Quartzsite experience and there isn't anywhere near a Million attendees.

In my opinion, you need to go to Quartzsite at least once! It's fun, it's different and the Newmar group is a blast!!!

Mike and Charlotte, X2 on what Dan said. We have attended at least a half dozen times and have no first hand knowledge of security issues. One year an attendee thought she had her purse taken but later found she had misplaced it. The huge number of RV's is a site to see. We all have a blast and the scenery is great. Come stay as long or as short as you like as it is informal. The RV Big Tent is best attended after the first day's huge crowd in my opinion.

Thank you both so much for the responses, I am awaiting shoulder surgery that I am trying to put off until February. I see the Dr again in Decemeber and should know more then, If we can attend we will as it sounds like it would be fun and we love camping in the desert. Thanks again it's always good to get the real scoop from those who have been there and not just heard the rumors...Mike

>Mike and Cha,
We attended in 2013 and I'd somehow dropped the full set of motorhome keys (apparently) in the vendor area. I didn't realize it until we'd returned to our RV and couldn't get in. We went back to the tents and our keys had been turned in. With the masses of people, I was amazed someone picked them up and turned them in. Totally amazed we got them back, but it sure put us in a good mood.

We camped in the BLM land with friends. They've been going for years and never had theft problems around the campsite.

We were looking for a TPMS and it was a great opportunity to have the various brands explained and to see the actual displays operating. Made comparison shopping easy.

We are approaching 50 rigs having registered or communicated to us that they will be attending the Quartzsite 'Gathering in the Desert' starting in six days. We expect with this many already in the list that we will have more than the 60 we have Hosted in the past two years. Please all come out and Gather with us and the other Newmar owners. No registration required, no requirement to be a NKK member. Come visit with the other Newmar owners We will have lots of NKK members. Lots of Newmar FMCA Chapter members and guests in some other brand (S. O. B. ) coaches. All welcome. If you would, please send us an email if you plan to attend and please bring some firewood if you are able. Our email is:

tednruthy@hindesfamily.net

I will reply to all emails with the directions and meal plan and seminar schedule. The direction signs will be up by Monday afternoon January 12.
