Newmar Rear Reflector (aka Rock Guard)

After following a newer Dutch Star on I90 heading east of Cleveland tonight after work, I confirmed my decision to remove the rear full length mudflap/rock guard. The stainless steel looks great and it was easy to tell it was a Newmar from a long distance, but when I got closer it reflected my LED headlights like a mirror. Very bright and distracting! Glad I was in my truck since it sits higher and the swinging reflector didn't point the headlights back directly at me too many times before I passed them.

Since this was a relatively smooth road (surprising for Cleveland I know, but it's not winter yet) I wondered what it would be like for someone following in a car with headlights closer to the ground, or on a rougher road. Likely bordering on a safety hazard at night.

Another bonus to removing the flap was easier access to the underneath for oil and filter changes.

P.S. Safe travels to the occupants of the Dutch Star from Mass.

That's exactly why my LED flashlight doesn't have high lumens. Any shiny object will come back and almost blind you. But then on the other hand, regarding their mud flap, keeps the tail gators at bay. All funnies aside, you do have a point.

Mine has been off for the last 10k miles. Toad stays much cleaner. It now resides on my back porch over the door.

I took mine off to get down the driveway. After reading so much about the damage it does left it off also. Hangs in the back of the garage.

Reflections from folks behind you? Fugedaboutit. How about the blinding reflection of the sun off the chrome insert on the DS in the 2017 era. Right sun angle will light up a road sign at a half mile. Probably can't remove the from hood, hmmmm, let me think about that...
