I received the letter, but will not be taking the coach in for the "repair". I actually installed a two button remote on the dash to control the side shades while driving to keep the sun out. As long as you don't run the shades down past the mirrors and the occupants of the coach understand not to play with the remotes, where is the safety issue? Maybe they should include a relay that kills the start switch until the driver passes a three page competency test.

lostinfla...would you share the particulars of the dash install you made
to control the side shades? Would appreciate. Thanks!

Sure, I just ordered a two button wireless control from MCD and programed it to the drivers shade and passengers window shade (not the door). Sticks where ever you want with double face tape. Programing is easy if you call them they can walk you through it over the phone. Very nice people! Here's a pic. Sorry it's sideways. Didn't start out that way but something on the site turns them around.

Many thanks, lostinfla. Good idea and install job. MCD folks are great
to deal with, extremely helpful and accommodating. Likely will make
the purchase and install. Again, thanks.

Checked my coach yesterday and with engine running the shades go up and down. So call applies on my May 2017 build DS 4369.

We were on a 3 week trip this summer in our 2017 4369 Dutch Star. Almost all of the shades in the coach malfunctioned at some point with the exception of the front windshield and driver/passenger windows. Took it in and they are replacing EVERY motor except the front window shade.

What issue are you referring to, the motors failing?

I sure hope not Stuart. Unless you have more current information than I do. When I was having all the issues with mine, I got on a three way call with MCD and Newmar customer service and they assured me the coaches being built as we spoke (this was May) MCD was shipping and Newmar was installing a new model motor. I've since confirmed that with customer service, that I'm getting the new motor and shade. The new motor is larger so it requires a new shade too. I wouldn't have ordered it unless that was true as I went through 8 motors in 6 months. Now this was a month ago, so if you've heard different lately, let me know and I'll get on the phone again.

If I were ordering a new one, I would NOT get the power shades. One of the new motors failed already.

Did you get the new style motors? What month was your coach built?
I wouldn't have ordered the old style either but was told the new style started going in around June and was assured I was getting the newer style. They sure are nice when they work. Push one button and all the night shades go down.
