I just made an appointment to have Newmar fix a few things on my Mountain Aire. With the appointment confirmation documents, they sent a list of "Routine Maintenance" items. I don't need the $2,000 wax (!!) but a few things looked like I should consider them. I'd like to know if anyone has had these performed and has any opinions on the need to do them on Newmar's schedule, a different schedule, or at all. The items of interest are:

Inspect and clean slide out rollers ($60 each, which means $240) - this is recommended at 3 months, 6 months, and every 12 months thereafter

Service roof A/C ($130 each, which means $390) - this is recommended at 6 months, and every 12 months thereafter

Service jacking system ($150) - this is recommended every 12 months

Thanks for the input.

Nope none really worth it but you can inspect your slide rollers to make sure they are rolling. ACs just clean the filters. Jacks just inspect and keep clean.

You may want to consider the A/C cleaning.

Here is a before cleaning.

Here is the after cleaning.

I did this myself and it takes about an hour per unit. You can go to any good A/S shop a get the cleaner. You just have to be careful rinsing the coils so you don't have a lquid running down in the air ducts and dirt plugging up the drains.

I'll do all that routine maintenance for $50 and a cold beer. Or you can do it yourself and keep the $50, but I'll still take the beer.

Oemy-how many years was it before the ACs were that dirty? He should be fine with an '08.

2 or 3 years... But, I was full time in the RV.

I now clean mine every year as it cools better and does not smell. Speaking of smell, be careful in what you use to clean the coils as the A/C will smell like the cleaner for days. I clean both the condenser and evaporator coils.

Outlet temp after cleaning...

Dale,

What is an A/S shop?

Any particular brand of cleaner that you use?

Does the cleaner do anything bad to the finish on the Rig? (I assume that you must rinse off any "overspray etc..)

If so what precautions do you take?

Do the drains handle the run off OK?

Sorry about all the questions. I am a little "hinky" about taking cleaners up on the roof that might cause permanent streaking on the finish.

Cheers,

Dave

My spelling needs help... But, do to forum rules no changes after a hour unless it is done by a moderator which is a royal pain in the.........

Anyway... a good A/C supply house will have it. Me I use VOOM RV cleaner, a brush, spray bottle and compressed air. I have not had any issues and I have a rubber roof and full body paint.

No problem with the drains... Just use plenty of rinse water in a spray bottle.

Some of us must rely on others to do some of this work, I being one.
The DW rule #1 is "If you so much as touch something and the MH breaks down, I will never go out in it again."
Rule #2 is Read rule #1 again.
Some of the prices were way out of line and some were little higher than other places, but you do get a discount if you buy one of the packages.
