Latitude (Rick) passed me some info from his trip down to Camp Newmar. He went in to try to get the fancy switch box slide overrider like the one I bought. Well, it turns out that people were causing all kinds of problems with this new found toy. I bought mine when Bob Gregory and I were there. Bob was going to get one too, but copped out thinking he would never need it. He was right. While about everything else seemed to happen to Bob, slide or lock failure was not one.

Anyway, just thought I would pass on the breaking news. "Film at 11:00" So, if your slide or locks give up the ghost..... call Bob, I'll lone it to him.

Peter

I've got one too!

For the hobbyist I'd be happy to open it up and take photos... Finding the connectors might be a challenge though...

Hi! On another post last week, I spoke about Super B having his slide not go in. I wrote that the tech jumped out the safety switch to make the slide work. Would you guys know, if the slide out tool was available, would that have bypassed the safety switch?? Paul

Hi! He has an '08 DSDP. it has auto lock arms. He has not picked his coach back up from the dealer. They told him on the phone they replaced both safety switches. I am not sure where they are located. Maybe RV Dude or the Doc will know. Paul

The "tool" bypasses all inputs to the slide out control circuit board. It replaces the plugs into the circuit board and thus directly actuates the slide motor or the lock arm motors via separate switches. Hence, any "safety inputs" to the main circuit board are completely bypassed. For example, with the tool you can open the slide w/o releasing (one or both) the lock arms (ooppsss) or you can bring the slide in w/ the (one or both) lock arms extended (another ooppss) as the proximity inputs for all those sensors are bypassed. Yes, the tool can be very destructive and I was quite surprised Newmar would have offered it. But I am glad to have it just in case. I think that answers the question but I am not sure what safety switch is being asked about...

The tool:
(Note the Newmar boys have a nice 30foot cable extender they made themselves so they can use the tools while walking around the slide out making sure all is OK.)

Both Jeff and I would like to make this statement.
"Please do not attempt this at home. We are professionals and wear special equipment while performing this or any power slide movement". Well, at least the movements we can vouch for.

While I positively endorse the great Doctor's wise words of wisdom, I should point out that it's not so much the special equipment that is worn but the consumption of special mind enhancing fluids which guarantees our safety. Now, as far as the safety of those around us and the moving power equipment, well, that's another topic!

Hi! We tried that. His boards were good. I will ask Barry to find out more about the safety switches and where they are located. If you had not read our other post, they were jumped by the tech right at the board. They are not on the board. Paul

Like Jets said, jumping a slide from the other (front/rear) control board will only identify/isolate 1) a bad connection at the board or 2) a bad board. The board jumpering will not correct/isolate/override a bad sensor feeding the board.

Hence both the jumpering and the "tool" together provide a good determination of the general fault cause and override.

Barring that, only a good 1.5 inch wrench will get that slide moving - unless you have a whole lot of really strong and burly slide pushers handy!
