I was told today, by a Spartan Dealer, that if it isn't broken Spartan won't fix any more fan hubs.

Hi Bob,

Are you talking about the shredded belts/fan drive issue?

Bummer......

I'm already scheluded for an April service appointment at Newmar. The latest fan drive upgrade was on the list, and acknowledged by Newmar. Mine was the first with the documented vibration at 1900 rpm, after the second upgrade. Hope Spartan will honor upgrading the system one more time...especially since it's already been scheduled...I would hate to drive all the way to Nappanee to be told Sorry it ain't broke....

Sebastian, Having the vibration present is considered "broken" I believe.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply...I hope Spartan considers it the same way...I know that the current upgrade is not right, and that it's another failure waiting to happen.

I spoke with Newmar's Spartan person this morning regarding this, and was told by him that vibrations or overheating are things which qualify for a fix.

Upon being aware of the latest and greatest upgrade and fix in the fall, I made a swing through Charlotte and Spartan to have them take a look at it. Even then they first did a test drive to determine that I had "the vibration" before undertaking the repair. I did and they fixed it. So I am not sure that much has changed. If you have the vibration, they will fix it.

Thanks to Paul and this forum, I was among the first five or so coaches to occur. It was pretty easy to hear the roar of the high speed fan and feel the vibration throughout the coach. All of the amigos and the good doctor Peter needed to have it done. I guess there are some who had the first upgrade who had no vibration, but I have not met any of them. As Spartan stated to me then, many of the coaches they first undertook to fix had no issues, but after the initial upgrade, they then needed the second tier of repairs.

I've owned my MA since mid-December and it's already broken down and been towed in twice. If they refuse to fix a known problem that leaves people broken down, this problem rears its ugly head and strands me again, Spartan & I are going to have a SERIOUS go-round.

John, That will not happen. Spartan are among the best servicing companies I have dealt with. I would not listen to this dealer's view of what Spartan's policies are, but would call them directly. To my knowledge, their policy has not changed, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Most k-2/k-3 chassis's did not experience this problem, for reasons not entirely known. I for one would like to know who this Spartan dealer is and exactly what he was officially told.

Peter
