No Slide Topper ?

I just noticed that our new 2013 DSDP 4318 doesn't have a slide topper on the passenger side front slide out. All other slides have toppers. I realize that the main awning covers this slide when it is out but there are times when you don't want to deploy the big awning and that leaves the top of that slide unprotected.

Is this typical of all Newmar coaches or just this model or is my coach missing a topper?

Bill

Mine is the same way. I am told that the top is sloped for water to run off. I think all Newmar Coaches are the same way.

Hi OC Bill,
All coaches whose name ends with Star are built this way. Star is the standard line coach. When one does not want the main awning deployed all the way, I deploy the main awning enough to cover the slide. This keeps the sun from heating up the contents in the overhead cabinets. I am told the slide does not have a topper because the topper hardware would interfere with the main awning fabric.

Recently made coaches (I forget the year) ending in Aire (Luxury line), have a topper on this slide. These coaches are taller than the Star line coaches.

I don't have slide cover on my main slide. Most of the time my awning is out. a topper would interfere with the awning.

I have no slide toppers at all. I believe it's a personal choice to have them. If we ever decide to get another coach it won't have them either.

The slide rubber seal should prevent any water or cold air from entering the coach if there is check the rubber seal and make sure the seal has no flips of the seal so water can get behind it.
The rubber seal acts as a wiper when slide is drawn in and should wipe the side of slide a remove most water beads collected on slide wall.
Same action happens on the top of the slide.
If the rubber seal is flipped use your Awning rod and run behind the seal so all of the seal lies flat against the slide sidewall.
There is no room to install a slide topper above a kitchen slide on a Newmar coach.

I have a 2014 Dutch Star 3736. It did not come with a front slide topper. I bought a dometic slide topper and installed. It works perfect and does not interfere with the awning. There many times I have my slides out without the awning out. I like having my slide out covered.

I have the same concerns, I am going to the Factory the week of 6-4-14 to have a custom buffet table installed, I will ask them about installing a topper on the forward slide.

Sorry my coach is dirty but I just got home late last night. Just as a note I had double awnings installed so both passenger side slides did not come with slide toppers. I installed both of them. Also on the full wall slide I am replacing the slide topper because of problems with a colorado carefree covered slide cover. I should have that installed in the next week or so and can post pictures if you would like. If you would like a picture with everything extended i can get you one.

I asked the factory to quote me price to install one on the front slide when I am there in June, the estimator emailed me back today that they generally don't do it because of possible clearance problems with the main awning. But he said they would take a look when I get there to see if they can do it.
