Norcold Recall Box Red Light from Truck Wash?
My Norcold 1200 has had the recall installed and has worked pretty good for the past 1 1/2 years, and even better when the recall was completed properly at the Newmar rally in Du Quoin. Today, it just quit, and on investigation, the dreaded red light on the recall box was lit. I searched the forum posts and found out how to reset the recall box (high temperature control box). I finally found a strong enough magnet and the magic spot (on the front of the box, to the right of the LED), and got it reset.
It was working at lunch. After lunch, I had the coach washed at Blue Beacon. An hour or so later, it wasn't working. My thinking is that all the spray in the truck wash caused "something" to fritz out (my technical term) and trip the box. I hope this is the case, since I don't want to deal with a replacement at this time.
Has anyone noticed that a truck wash would cause the high temperature limit box to trip?
Ken

The MORONS that brought you the fire prone refer also brings you a recall board with ZERO weather proofing! Yes...if you get it wet, it will glow red.

There have been a few posts regarding recall boxes being ruined by washing the RV.

Even a rain if the wind is right will shut our fridge down. Noticed sudden voltage changes also shut it down (like the power drops for a second or two). So far our recall box version E has reset with a magnet.

If you have a hair dryer dry the box and maybe you can reset with the magnet again.
If not than you need a new one.
Not sure if you can cover it with a zip bag but would give it a try just keep bag away from the heat.

Thanks for all the feedback. I tried moving a magnet in various places but it didn't work. After getting in touch with a RV tech by phone, I tried again with a slightly stronger magnet. The trick for me was to hold the magnet steady for about 3-5 seconds, on the front plane of the box, just to the right of the red light. I heard the click and was back in business.

I heard that Norcold is supplying 1 lb magnets with their new RV fridges that are installed in new rigs AND they are also available to anyone who needs one of their new magical Recall "black boxes" installed.

I wonder how often they kick themselves when they see their profit margins drop with us advising the magic magnet trick or someone ordering a residential fridge for new coach or a do it yourself conversion on their good working box with better cooling unit.
