Not sure I know what I am doing....

The DW and I have been prepping to do our thing for about two years now and we are close, but we are both confused as to why they put the Ellipse/Tour on the same level as the Dutchstar. Yes we understand the fuel tank size and the motor size, but we are looking at a Ventana 4369 with Euro Recliners and I can't for the life of me justify the 42QD Ellipse being on par with the Ventana........what am I missing? The cost seems to be off a touch.

???

Who's is "they"?

If two different units by different manufacturers are the same price, they are competitors. It's up to the consumer to decide if the product is right for them.

The Tour has always been a competitor to the DS. The Meridian compares to the Ventana.

"They" would be the dealers and reps, just because you price them the same doesn't make them competitors in my eyes. Just the fit and finish seems to set them apart in that aspect. We are down to the 42QD and the Ventana 4369.....time will tell I guess.

After 3 years of looking / researching, we narrowed down to the Tour QD and the DS 4369.

You are correct about fit and finish and I can also tell you that the QD drives very nice but the DutchStar is even better.

Both coaches are really nice. During the early stages we could have easily gone either direction but as we spent more time in both we slowly moved toward the DS. We are very glad we did.

The 4369 has turned out to be the perfect floorplan for us and Newmar has been a great manufacturer to deal with so far.

I can't really speak about the Ventana, we looked at them but kept moving toward the DS instead and I don't really recall why.

I have met many Tour QD owners and most are very happy with their coaches. They did have slideout trouble in the 2013, 2014 and early 2015 models but they changed the mechanism and no problems since as far as I know.

Good Luck with your search

We bought a 2015 Ventana and love it but I don't think it compares feature to feature with the Tour. 450hp, IFS, Multiplex lighting, 150 gal fuel tank - those are all key features that separate the DS from the VT and the Tour from the Meridian/Journey.

2015 Ventana 4369 in a heartbeat.

IMHO, of course.

I am assuming there is a HUGE cost difference between the 11 Ellipse and the 15 Ventana. If not, The Ventana would be my choice.

The 2014 Ellipse/Tour went through a significant upgrade,(LED interior lighting, dual awnings, and a bunch of other stuff) I don't remember all the things that were changed but for us it reduced our desire to even look at the older models

We did look at a 12 JD and a 12QD. The QD was beat up from use and the JD dealer wanted too much money.

Ventana, but you do know, of course, you are on the Newmar forum?
That said, when we decided to upgrade from our Baystar, every coach we entered other than a Newmar just didn't seem to have the quality of components and fit and finish of Newmar. It was very evident to me as soon as I walked in another brand. Maybe I'm just used to Newmar (kind of like getting a lifelong GM owner into a Ford. Not better of worse, but different). We started out looking at the Ventana and made the mistake(?) of looking at a DS. We ended up with the Dutchie.
