Turning "on" the diesel burner. Only "allows" the system to fire the burner if it sees fit to do so. It is set up to give preference to the electric element automatically if it is turned on. Don't try to "second guess" the system, it's already smart. In most cases just leave the electric element and diesel burner switches "on" 24x7. It will only use diesel if the electric is not keeping up with demand. Besides, the diesel burner needs to be exercised on a regular basis anyway, or there is a good chance when you need it it won't work. You aren't doing it any "favors" by not using it - just like your generator......"use it or lose it" hold true.
