Oasis zone problem

Our Oasis CH50M was working fine until yesterday when zone 1 stopped producing warm air. The fans activate normally and respond to the thermostat but only cool air is produced. Zone 2 and hot water work OK.

I reached behind a zone 1 heat exchanger and found the hoses cool. I checked the Oasis unit and found zone 1 heat loop and other zone 1 indicators lit normally. The remote panel is working normally but behavior of the LEDs suggests there is no demand on the system from zone 1.

I manually activated the pumps using the bypass switch located on top of the zone control module. Zone 1 produced heat normally suggesting the zone 1 pump is OK.

So it appears the zone 1 pump is not receiving the signal to activate when needed.

Please suggest other troubleshooting steps I can take.

I have a call into ITR but haven't heard from them yet.

Strangely I had exactly that same problem a few days ago. Hard to reproduce because it is 80 degrees here so heat is only needed in the early morning. Thought I was going to have to replace pump 1 but after I wiggled all the wiring it started working again. Don't know if that really was the problem or the pump is going out but at the moment I am OK. I went through the service manual and according to ITR it is either wiring or the pump so I should be interested if they tell you about other possibilities.

if your not running the diesel burner it will blow cold air in the front of coach if the outside temp is too cold. Turn on the diesel burner and give it a couple minutes and see if the front blows warm. I called Oasis and they said the even with both electric elements on it will not be able to keep up with cold weather and will only blow warm in rear of coach. This was not ideal for me as I keep mine in the shop and my heat pumps dont work below 32 degrees. good news is your storage bays will get heat automatically below 40 degrees. My shop was 15 degrees the other day and my coach will heat to 50 degrees on electric heating elements. thermostat is set at 60.

Update: ITR called back and had me check the pump inside the distribution module. The pump was running but making noise. The zone 2 pump is nearly silent. As I watched, the pump quit running. Checking the voltage, I found 13.5 volts. It appears the zone 1 pump is kaput.

I'm not going to fix it here for fear of collateral damage to water heating or zone 2 so we'll use the heat pumps till we return home in March..

Meanwhile, Kevin at ITR told me the pumps are ~$290. Seems like a lot for a very small pump. Has anyone tried to source a pump elsewhere?

Well in my case it was 60 outside and I had both electric elements AND the diesel burner on, which was firing as per normal.

Sorry, the messages were getting out of sequence. Yes, others have tried and failed to find an alternative. But it sounds like you won't be paying anyone $120 an hour to change it. I will probably wait to check mine when I can shut the system down so the coolant is cold.

Has anyone disassembled a pump?

I'm wondering if the impeller is a serviceable part. I suspect mine has a failed impeller or possibly some debris in the pump housing.

Before dropping $300 on a new pump, I want to know whats wrong with this one.

Jeff,
As a work around until your unit is serviced, turn "on" the "Pump By-Pass" switch located on top of the Zone Board Panel. The By-Pass pump will circulate hot fluid to all heat transfer units. When Zone 1 calls for heat the fans will turn on and there will be hot fluid to provide heat. If the weather gets warm, turn the By-Pass switch off as it will continue to circulate hot fluid. This procedure will keep you warm until you reach service.

Algoma,
I have experienced the SAME issue. Get a can of electrical contact cleaner. Pull the spade connectors apart and spray both sides of the connector with cleaner. Then connect and disconnect the spades 3 or 4 times; should solve your issue!
