Odd Awning Retraction Issue

Yesterday I deployed my forward Girard Awning for most of the day. It was a pleasant day without much wind at all. Nothing unusual happened through out the day that should have any impact on the awning performance.

So...

I'm packing things up for the evening and using the remote I command the forward awning to retract. I can hear the motor running but nothing else happens. I scratch my skull, try it a couple more times, attempt a "reset" by pulling the fuse and nothing changes.

So, I resorted to a trick I needed to use with my previous AE awnings. I used my awning rod to push up on it and "bounce" it a bit and it retracted.

Any thoughts on why this happened and perhaps what I should be looking at?

I don't know if the DSDPs have an awning switch inside? if so, I'd use that to see if the awning works. then you can isolate the problem to the remote, perhaps the battery for the remote..

there should also be awning control units in the basement. they can also operate the awnings.

I don't think the issue is a problem with the remote. I could hear the awning motor running but the awning didn't move at first. It only moved after I used the awning rod to "bounce" it up and down. It seemed like there was some kind of mechanical problem with it. My best analogy was that something was slipping.

Just spent three days at Camp Girard as they chased down some weird awning issues. Learned a lot about the workings. The motor is direct drive so my guess is that one or more of the arms got jammed. When you bounced the awning, it released. The motor can overheat and then will time out with a thermal delay. All the moving parts pivot points need to be lubed with silicone spray. When you hear that screeching noise, that’s when it needs to be lubed.

We went to Girard to get our awnings adjusted. They were both sticking out about 1.5". I adjusted the rear one and solved the problem, but couldn't get the front one to adjust all the way in. The manual warns about over adjusting and causing the motor to continue running.

They jumped on our coach the first thing in the morning. Darn if the guy didn't turn the adjuster one more turn and get the awning in. With that said, I'm glad we went there. They're very pleasant and our tech gave me a couple of extra tools and explained some of the workings.

I mention all of this as I would give them a call....they are very happy to help and will surely explain what is going on with yours.
