Oil Change Info For New Freightliner Chassis
I completed day 1 at Camp Freightliner today. I was surprised to learn the clock for the first annual service starts when the chassis is completed at FCCC, NOT when it leaves the Newmar factory. FCCC puts oil in the engine and runs it on a dyno before shipping it from Gaffney.
I’m my situation, the chassis was complete at FCCC on 11/27/17 and FPU began at Newmar on 3/19/18. I’m due for the first annual service on 11/27/18.

yup, we never run out of miles on the oil. so it gets changed on 12 month cycle.
got close last year to miles, but that was a fluke

In the end YOU decide when your annual service is. My chassis was odd in that FCCC built it Dec 2016, Newmar took delivery April 2017, I took delivery (FPU) June 2017. FCCC wants to do the annual in Dec 2016 rotation so that would be 6 months after I took delivery of the brand new coach. I went with April as that's when Newmar took it, it works better for me and I got a few more months before the annual service rotation, FCCC had no problems with that. Warranty wise it's from your date of delivery so don't worry about that, it's just the service schedule. Again...YOU DECIDE...

Deffinately time...that’s what got my attention. I feel like I just lost 3 months. Time flies by quick enough as it is.
I’m not complaining, just wanted to pass on the info.

It is sooo confusing. My Freightliner service manual tells me I need a
"6000 Mile or 6 Month Initial Maintenance: 00–03".
Given your dates for example, is that 5/27/18 or 9/19/18 ???

It would be 5/27/18, but we were told we could skip that one. I’m going to double check that in class tomorrow.

Once you have done the first service it is then every 12 months so you only lose a few months once in the life of your coach. My chassis build and in service dates were 6 months apart, but I would rather do the service in August than February anyway.

In Camp Freightliner it was mentioned that the 6 month service is optional. If you notice the difference with the one year service is there is no oil change listed for 6 months. It was also mentioned if you do a 6 month service, get the oil changed and then you don't have to go back for a year.
I had the one year service done at 6 months from purchase which was 9 months after the chassis build date. Now we do it every April in Gaffney on our trip north.

I'm likely going to have to check with Freightliner on what to do...
I pick up tomorrow at the dealer.
It's a 2018 Ventana 4369, but according to the chassis VIN #, it's a 2019 Freightliner Chassis!!

dxg0001,
Correction: the instruction was not to skip the 6 month service; however, if you’ve already missed the 6 month service due to circumstances out of your control (ie: coach sat on the lot too long), then don’t worry about it.
I am due for 6 mo. service on 5/27/18.

Thanks! So after the 6 month service, is the 12 month service 6 months later or 12 months later?

the intervals are every 12 months or XX miles...
so unless you are putting on heavy miles, it will most likely be 12 months....

Come on guys. These things are not powder puffs that you have to keep under glass. If you go beyond a service, or run short of a designated point, they do not turn into pumpkins. We regularly go to Alaska. An 11,000 mile trip and sometimes a maintenance cycle comes due while we're on the road up or back. I look at what's due, then hit those items that may cause a problem like greasing the universals and slip joint on the drive shaft, and get them done. I really don't sweat things like checking the clearances on the antiskid pulse sensors or greasing the brake roll pins just when they come up due. Same goes for oil changes. These time directed items are many times based on the absolute worst conditions you might drive your rig in. In fact, if you are driving the rig, you probably are causing less wear, corrosion, and contamination running it than if it sits. Many commercial trucking companies develop their own maintenance checklists and run their rigs for hundreds of thousands of miles without problems. In fact, if you look at the service points of the individual items on a rig like rear axles, brakes and suspension components, you'll see many different intervals than your RV manufacturer calls for.
