Question On first camping trip, fighting the sewer hose, help!

Hello all,

I'm finally out on my first camping trip. A 3 1/2 day exercise to Cherrystone, VA. So much learning to do, wish I was in a corner to myself! :( Things worked smoother at Newmar and sure enough I think I threw away the sewer hose they provided me. I bought several of the RhinoFLEX and accessories, having several issues.

I am having a hard time, well, I cannot connect the hose through the bottom of the wet bay and make the turn to the gray/black drain connector.

To keep this short, which hose and connector do you recommend that works in the VTDP, etc. through the wet bay bottom hole and into the connection? Or am I going about this all wrong if the RhinoFLEX will work?

Help! / Thanks!

Pictures would help, but in my case, the hose end connectors would not come through the holes in the bottom of the bay because the pins were too long to fit through. So I had to get two connectors, and a short length of flex hose, and make an extension to go through the hole to outside. Outside, I put a cap on it, and a velcro strap holds the cap and hose when it is not in use. Just attach the RhinoFlex to the extension outside the bay, then proceed as normal. I attached the new ends to one end of adapter hose, ran the hose through the hole, and attached the outside end. then fasened inside end to the outlet, and was ready to travel. Its been in use for a number of years, and may need replacing soon.

I found the Blue Line fittings and hose worked very well in our '02 DSDP. The Blue Line fittings were the only ones that would fit in the sewer storage hatch/pipe that Newmar provided.

Did you try moving the drain connector? If rotates up and down. It took me a few trips Thu realize that.

The 90 degree or 45 degree Valterra clear hose connectors work well. The rv connection can be manually rotated to get good alignment.

I also like to replace the black cap with a clear one. Cuts down on nasty suprises. When the day comes that a blade valve starts to leak...it's easy to drain the leaked liquid by directing the little garden hose valve into the opening of your sewer hose. Less mess...

That is what we use as well. A 90Deg fitting to get it though the floor hole.

I did discover it goes up and down so I connected above the floor instead of going down the hole, problem is obviously that makes an incline. Pictures of my connections/situation attached.

Neal, you need a 90 degree elbow to go down through the hole, that's all. Get a clear one.

Throwing the hose away that Newmar gave you was a good move. Cheapest piece of junk I've ever seen. Mine was full of pinholes on day 1.

I must admit for a builder that claims to use the coaches this is one aspect that I have watched with great attention. This system should be designed to make it easy to attach a high quality hose system. Yet there are a number of comments about hoses that do not last etc...who wants this system to fail or go bad?

I would very interested if anyone has pictures using the drainmaster in a Newmar coach by going out the hole in the wet bay.

Crisis averted, General Store had the 90 Valterra. All hooked up and sealed up.

Yes, I agree, Newmar could help their customers and like me, new to RV'ing by supplying the connections and showing a little more effort. How much does a 90 fitting cost? Add it to my sale price, I don't care, just give me what I need to succeed and be happy. This, the shower regulator, etc. can all be done better by a company as prestigious as Newmar.

Whatever...thanks my outstanding friends here! Fast, helpful, and friendly as always.

Hi Neal - Generally the dealer gives some sort of starter kit, especially for newbies. Sort of surprised they left you high and dry.

They do give us a hose and not much more than that. Cheap. So be it. Learning as we go.
