Hi shortyroc,
If the generator will not stay running it is either spark or fuel. My first guess is fuel. Is there a way you can put the generator fuel line into a gas can filled with fuel? Running the generator from the fuel can will eliminate or confirm what the next steps would be.

Had that happen on my 2000 Bigfoot in 2005. The fuel line from the tank to the Generator fuel pump had cracks and started sucking air.

it is the fuel line, but it appears to lined in directly to the fuel tank with no reservoir that i can see,
there does not appear to be any cracks in the line but i will have to figure out how to prime it.
the tank went to half full so i am guessing it was below the safety shutdown level.

nope not the fuel line like i thought. and i tried garyKD's idea with the gas can it sucked up the fuel to it but did the same thing and shut off after i let go of the switch, and i did not want to hold it down more then a few secs so it does not burn out the starter. the only thing i can think of now is the carb, pump or filter but can not get to them so i will have to call a repair guy to come out to fix it.

Can you find your choke and start it holding it open. May need adjustment.

The most common complaint is that the engine starts but will not keep running when the START switch is released. This happens because the control board will not allow the engine to continue running if the generator is not producing voltage or if the oil pressure signal is not present.

Generator & RV Controls | Engine Monitors | Idle Limiter | Repair & Rebuilding Services has a good troubleshooting guide.

You may want to check the rear of the control board, boards have been known to become dirty and can short out some funtions. Spray with some contact spray to clean.
