My slides won't operate with the engine running--I assume a safety precaution. Is there any way to override this? A few days ago at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (elev. 8,000') my house batteries were running low, but my generator wouldn't operate (a separate issue). I ran the engine enough to bring the charge up a little, enough to get the slides in, but got to wondering if there is a way to operate the slides with the engine running to give the batteries a boost?

That's a new one on me. I'll be interested in the answers because I HATE to operate my slides WITHOUT my engine running. I do it sometimes but it can really put a hit on my chassis batteries.

The slide controllers on our coach have a connection for "ign input". I have not tried it, but bet that if that wire were disconnected the slide would operate with the engine running.

Had the impression that my slides worked out of my House batteries, not chassis batteries

With Newmars It is a "saftey feature" by design. If the iginition is in the on or run position the slides will not work. Several users have had issues after lowering their jacks they tried to open the slides and they would not go out tuned out they had left the key in the on position.

I appreciate your input Ricko on your Itasca. But aren't you clouding the issue since this is a Newmar forum?

Our Bay Star is the same thing. With the slides out, the engine will not even start. We let the Gen run, so, that we do not "hurt" the Batteries

During our recent tech walk through at the time of purchase our 2008 KSDP it was explained that Newmar products do not permit the starting of the engine while the slides are out.

That's strange, because my engine starts and runs fine when the slides are out. But the slides won't operate when the engine is running.

With regard to when the slides operate, it depends on the year, power plant and model of the coach.
