Order or not?
We are in the process of finishing up the order of a DSDP 4018 and are curious as to the usefulness of the Dometic fridge/freezer in the basement. Is this an item you are actually using? Cold drinks without going into the coach sounds good, worth having or not? We do intend to be full timers within 8 months....

Hi Bob! After having/using one for several years now.......I would never be without one. I use it for refreshments, and like you said, sure cuts down on the in and out traffic. I also keep food and condiments in it for outdoor grilling.

We did an aftermarket Dometic freezer in small bay. Would never be without it! Hard ice cream...yum

I didn't get it. There are two of us, how much fridge space do you need? I love having the storage space for my tools. There you go, different opinions! But hey, I picked the Coach up in October and have 5,000 miles on it, so I can't really speak from "experience".

Our coach had one in it when we bought it (and it works) and it is a freezer or fridge. Our fridge in the coach is 12CuFt (I think) so I think that it will come in handy, especially to extend the freezer space. Haven't actually used it (or the coach) yet so I'll find out soon. It does eat up the front 1/3 of a slide out though.

We wouldn't be without it. Slides far enough out that the "lid" stays up. Always got beverages handy.

My opinion. If you have a full size residential fridge, like a 22 cuft, then the usefulness of a basement fridge is somewhat diminished. In addition if you are going to full time you will be giving up some valuable storage space for the convenience on not having to go inside for a cold one.
Not saying you should or should not get one as everyone's priorities are a little different.

We ordered the Dometic in the basement. Found out it could be run on shore power in our storage barn separate from the coach. That way we can have the whole coach powered down and still keep essentials cold in the Dometic. Also figured we could pull out if we don't use often, and then we have a handy, dandy tray that pulls out extra far.

We turned it down. We are full time and needed the storage space. We didn't need the extra cooled area: our residential fridge is plenty big enough for the two of us, plus guests.

We have one now, and had one in our previous coach. We love it and have always used it for additional frozen food space. When we are on the road, it stays full and is appreciated. I see the validity and desire to not have one for additional basement space as there is never enough! Perhaps your decision might best be made based upon how much refer and deep freeze space you currently use daily.

Our '02 DSDP had one. When we traded it on the Magna the late wife demanded we have one even though the Magna had a far bigger refer/freezer. Bought one that same day but never even got the wiring done and since I'm alone now I don't feel the need for on and would rather have the storage space

I don't have one but on extended trips I wish I did.

I have a 4018 and while I would like to have the Dometic freezer, I would miss the storage space. I just walk a few more feet to grab a cold one.

X2 - we purposely did not order the outdoor fridge. Lots of room in the residential and using the compartment to store tools tools is priceless.
