Outdoor Shower to Hose Bib

Thanks to Norm for the original post (http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/outd...er-315654.html), but I think it is too old for me to add to it, so here's an update.

I bought the parts at Lowes for $7.98 each (washing machine valve 1/2 inch, part #367489 for the blue one, and #367488 for the red one).

The shower housing comes off by removing four screws, and the connections can be loosened by hand - turn off the water first). I used the plastic washers that came with the valves on the outside of the cover and the original large flange washers on the inside. Get them tight and make sure the hose connection is pointing down (or whatever direction you prefer). Attach the water lines to the back of the new valves, then reinstall the cover.

I never liked the outdoor shower fixture and these hose connections should prove to be more useful.

Eric I really like the look of that mod. It looks so much classier than the shower. That’s the best one I ve seen! So what do you use your outside shower for where you would want to separate the hot and cold? I’m thinking about washing the dog where I may want to mix the hot and cold. In the past I only used the outside shower to clean out the wet bay. What does everyone else use the outside shower or faucets for?

Hose bib in wet bay

I found the water pressure to be much improved with the hose bib vs the old shower. I will probably use the new hose connections for hooking up a garden hose for washing the Motorhome or just cleaning stuff outside. I think I will add a "Y" type hose connector like on an old washing machine to bring the hot and cold together and to direct the water out of the wet bay.

That would be one way to convert your outside shower to something usable. Or while at Lowe's just pick up the simple plastic fitting that goes from hose thread to pipe thread (male to male) for under $2.00. Unscrew your outside shower head from the shower hose and screw in pipe thread end.

I just did this 15 second mod last week to I can use it to back flush my black tank.

I used a Utility Sink Faucet that has a garden hose threaded end on the spout and installed it in place of the "shower" faucet. This way I can easily screw a hose to the threaded outlet and have cold, or hot, or warm water. This makes it much easier to wash out dog.

I can't find the link to the faucet I used (mine has a shorter outlet stem) but it is similar to this one in Amazon.Com

I, also, was going to remove the outdoor shower as I only use it to wash out the sanitary bay. I decided to just remove the hose, store it in a nearby bay and install a separate hose and valve for rinsing out the sanitary bay and for black tank rinse. I borrowed the shower head holder to hold the new hose in place. The quick disconnect is for hookup to the black rinse.
If I need a warm rinse for some reason, I can always rehook the shower hose.

If you are simply taking off the shower head in the convenience center and leaving the OEM hose, then go to Lowe's with your OEM shower head. The fitting you want is plastic and male-to-male. It will screw into the shower head and the other end is garden hose thread, which will screw into your black tank flush, or another garden hose if you want.

My first attempt was to simply remove the shower head and convert it to a garden hose connection. But I found the water stream coming through the original faucet and small diameter plastic tube was just not adequate to wash a dog or anything else, let alone supply enough water for a garden hose. I removed the entire original faucet and attached the new utility sink faucet to the coach supply lines. This gave enough quantity of water for a 1/2 inch diameter hose to be useful. I can wash the windshield and the toads windshield with mine.

This is the faucet (with hose threading on end) that I used. The neck swivels.
Not only is it great for washing the dog - I use it to flush my black tank with HOT water.

Love what you did! It looks great. Just a friendly warning on that faucet or others where the spout exits on top. Water will stand in the spout and can freeze and split. After I used a faucet like that one on our first coach, my next coach I reversed the faucet so the water exited the bottom, and I shortened the neck so all I had was a stub with the garden hose threaded part.

My only goal was to be able to flush my black tank without running a separate garden hose to the compartment, so a ton of water pressure was not required. If I'm doing any type of outside washing on the MH or toads I will just stick with running a regular hose from the CG supply and a splitter. Your mod would work nicely if you were dry camping though.
