Overall height of 2020 DS...
I hope this is not a stupid question, but if it is, oh well, it won’t be my last.
If the baggage compartment doors are going to be 2 inches higher on the new DS does this mean that the overall height of the coach will be 2 inches higher? I also read that the pass thru space in the basement will be 2 inches higher. I wasn’t sure if this meant the floor of the basement would be 2 inches closer to the ground than it is currently or height would change.
I currently only have 3-4 inches of extra clearance on my garage door and am hoping the 2020 Dutch acquisition doesn’t become extra expensive for me.

Maybe the ground clearance has been reduced by 2 inches.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a couple of inches taller to achieve
the extra room. Tiffin has the IH
model with a raised rail and their
specs. for their Phaeton IH come in at 13’2”.

Mountain Aire is 13’ 4” so I would assume the DS is taller to get the extra height.

I received a reply from Newmar. The overall height remains unchanged. The extra 2 inches were gained from the floor.

But the pass-thru height is determined by the chassis, not the floor, so the chassis must have been raised 2".

John, If everything remained the same and you lowered the floor of the storage bay then the pass through height will increase by the amount of drop of the storage bay floor.

So my previous comment was correct in that they are reducing the ground clearance.

I went back and read the email that I received from Newmar, yes you are correct, they are reducing the ground clearance by an equal amount.
I just didn’t want to have to spend money modifying my garage door etc. I was happy to get their reply.

What's the issue with your 2019 that you're purchasing a 2020? You're worried about the cost of a garage door?
