2006 Essex 4508
Jeff at Newmar emailed the paint codes for my Essex and advised Newmar uses BASF paints. Simple enough, but our BASF dealer doesn't recognize the paint and tint codes.
Has anyone bought paint for their 2006 Essex or may be able to identify the codes and tints on the listing below?

Many thanks,
JVR

Hi JVR,
I am not sure when Newmar changed from Sherwin Williams automotive paints to BASF but that might be the problem. Our 2005 EXDP was done in Sherwin Williams. Our repaint that was done in October 2008 along with new sidewalls changed that to BASF. Those paint numbers you listed look like my old Sherwin Williams codes and the tints beginning with U are exactly the same as what was printed on my Sherwin Williams color mixing sheet.
I had extra paint mixed up at a SW location that supplied their automotive line.

Thanks, Jeff just advised the codes are SW and Newmar changed to BASF in 2006, since my coach is a 2006, it was built in 2005.
Thanks again,
JRV

a good automotive paint supply store should be able to cross reference those numbers for you, at least mine was able to. i had carried the m/h to the supply house, after he found the formula he mixed the paint up and compared it to the m/h and was not happy, he finally carried his "gun" (similar to what they use at home depot to color match paint) and tweaked the formula to get a perfect match for my repair job. my advice, if possible, is to find a supply house and drive the m/h there and have them match the paint. it took the tech at the supply house a good hour to get the match right

ps. my body shop man is an old friend and has a good relationship with the supply house so my repair turned out great

Now that the issue is solved, I thought it would be nice to share the info hopefully to save someone else the trouble in the future.
  1. The codes furnished by Newmar and listed above are for Sherwin Williams paint but the codes are not SW codes the codes are listed as Newmar codes.
  2. No SW dealer in our area sells or mixes the hi-end paint, and no shops are familiar with the process.
  3. BASF was used on a previous repair and it did very well and the paint shop like the BASF base coat-clear coat Diamont product.
  4. The same BASF dealer could not cross over the paint codes, but he was able to, several years ago. Now the industry is changing to a water-bourne product, primarily due to EPA reg's. No distributer in our area has the equipment to mix or sell the water-bourne product
  5. In short 3 of the colors are still available in the Diamont base coat system and the last which is color A is only available in the new product. I have removed the gas door to have the BASF dealer develop a color close for that color.
  6. I am buying a little more paint than I need in order to have a supply for the future. My repair is limited to a compartment door.

I just found the detail info for how to look up Newmar's BASF paint codes. Thought I'd post it for the record.

Per the Newmar paint shop (I got this info back in 2007)....

The paint codes are accessible only by a BASF store. The BASF store needs to log on to their account at www.basfrefinish.com select "formula retrieval" and then select "fleet". Enter Newmar for fleet. That should bring up all the Newmar BASF codes. If there are questions - the BASF store can call Tim Brenner at BASF at 517-937-1893.
