Well, here goes. On a previous thread I had mentioned about the cost of a dash panel Part #nm01558, This was found thanks to the help of 007 and the comnet site. Anyway I called Newmar to get a price on this and was told it would be $358.00 plus shipping. We do not have a Newmar dealer anywhere near home. So then I PM Lee and he said he would look into it and get back to me. I told him I would be driving past his dealership in Feb and could stop by and pick it up. 2 weeks and no reply. In the meantime the radio quit while I was driving it to get the Norcold update done. Best thing that happened. When I got back into my shop I proceeded to pull the radio out and found a sticker on the back of the dash panel with a part number for a company called Positron Corporation. Google search and a phonecall, part ordered. Cost $55.00 plus shipping. Paid for it Jan 10. In my hands Jan 17, but it was at the border on Friday. Super quick, reasonable and very nice to deal with. Yes they had to make it, it was not a stock item.
655% mark up, and I'm sure Newmar would not have paid $55.00 for the item so it would be even more, is NOT a reasonable price. I agree with 94-Newmar that Newmar is raping us for parts. I can only imagine what they are charging for factory mods.

It was said in 94-Newmars thread that its possible to find better pricing elsewhere, if we get enough of these I'll add in a thread.
It was also said some people are not bothered by Newmar's pricing, to each his own.

True, but are you, 007, willing to pay 6x the price for a part from Newmar that you could buy elsewhere. I guess some Newmar owners have unlimited resources, good for them. I don't. So when I hear of a company overcharging for a part, this has to be brought to light. Newmar is a very good company, based on good principles, and builds a very good product, but that does not give them the right to overcharge for parts. I am more than willing to pay them a reasonable price for replacement parts, but when they have a markup like that, this is not reasonable. I am very happy with the general quality of our MH, when it comes to parts = not happy!

I agree with what you said maybe if I owned a DP I wouldn't care what their pricing is also.
I do the same as you look for the best price if its possible.

Would it be possible to obtain a list of suppliers of various parts from Newmar? We could contact the suppliers directly if we wanted to.

Start buying a lot of stamps for those thousands of letters you'll be writing because "outrageous" part markup is pretty standard.
Parts/Service make great profit centers for a business, especially in economic down times.

IMHO, Newmar would not do this.
Some parts are obtained from more than one supplier for various reasons.

I agree that Newmar should not supply a list of all their part suppliers. But when I removed the dash panel, there was a sticker that identified the supplier and had the part # on it. Sometimes you just have to look.
Newmar is entitled to supply parts to the the end user, years later, at a reasonable price. They are allowed to have a reasonable markup. That is the way all businesses have operated. But there comes a point when 655% markups are a bit much. I would have gladly ordered the part from Newmar, but being familiar with CNC technology, I knew that looking for a previous file and sending it to a CNC machine with a piece of plastic on it was not worth the amount that Newmar wanted to charge.
By the way........ the dash panel fit perfectly. The biggest problem was installing the new JVC radio to replace the Jenson. The new one sounds great. Rock on.

What was this part for the radio? Newmar must have wanted to sell you the whole thing part & radio.
That said we welcome you maybe we will need your ingenuity on some parts in future.
Always like a bargin.

Maybe if they had said that, it would have been acceptable, but they only wanted to sell me the plastic dash panel. All I was saying is DO NOT BE AFRAID TO PULL YOUR COACH APART, YOU MAY FIND SOME INTERESTING THINGS THAT CAN SAVE YOU A TON OF $$$$$$. If you are at the mercy of the Newmar parts people, you may be overpaying. Just trying to save $ so I can spend it on campgrounds and traveling. Isn't that what RVing is all about?

I see THIS discussion is sponsored by TST. Although I have a Hawkshead TPMS I think it is a great idea that ALL MH owners have some sort of TPMS.

I find that statement very inflamatory sir.
I own a DP and in no way care to waste my money. This is the type coach I chose for many reasons, mostly being an ex-truck driver and equipment operator who is very familiar with large diesel powertrains.
Just because I own and operate a DP doesn't mean I have deep pockets or I am financially irresponsible. The lord has blessed me with a good living and family so that I may enjoy something like a DP. I didn't get it by being foolish or sqaundering my money.
Rant over.
