Pioneer radio😡

Howdy Newmar nation,

Our new to us 04 MADP 4017, has the original pioneer radio, I hate the tiny, poorly marked buttons. Resolution on the back camera is poor as well.
Any suggestions on replacement options will be appreciated.

Pioneer radio😡

Is it a single DIN or a double DIN? I’m partial to Kenwood Excelon double din units but most of the units these days are pretty good. If you’re upgrading headunits, you might as well add an amp and replace the existing speakers too.

I know very little about car audio (had to look up DIN definition). I from the era when FM was a big deal!
I am assuming it’s 1 DIN as it has a retractable screen.

Welcome to the forum and your Newmar.
No nothing about DIN's either but at the end of this long link there is threads about rear camera's and radio's.
As with all the QT's links full of info this link will be a knowledge source for you also.
Enjoy the forum safe travels.

“International standard ISO 7736 defines a standard size for car audio head units and enclosures. The standard was originally established by the German standards body Deutsches Institut für Normung as DIN 75490, and is therefore commonly referred to as the "DIN car radio size". It was adopted as an international standard in 1984.

Head units generally come in either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100.3 mm panel) size.”

I replaced that same awful Pioneer combination unit in our 2004 MADP 4016 with a single DIN Pioneer cd/am/fm/hd radio/aux/Bluetooth/xm/mp3 radio from Crutchfield (Pioneer DEH-X8800BHS, about $200?). Simple installation, took about 2 hours total. I replaced the GPS functionality with a separate Garmin 760 and got a separate 7" monitor on Amazon for the rear camera and Trip-Tek.

FC, thanks for the tip, I will be checking Crutchfield’s site tonight!
Regarding GPS, was there an existing GPS device in your coach and you upgraded to Garmin? I wasn’t aware our MA had any GPS capability.

How did you route the camera cable to the dash mounted monitor?

I am not familiar with Trip-Tek, I will checkout their web site.

Appreciate your help, much to learn!
