FiveStarDEF,
Thanks for all the great information. With regard to the DEFSPOUT, I like that it is 12 inches long or even 18! Would it screw onto a Walmart box of DEF? If it would, that would be an awesome purchase for those of us who buy DEF at Walmart, but fight with the box/spout trying to fill our DEF tanks.

We also make a DEFSPOUT that fits the Blue DEF Jug typically sold at WM and other retail jugs.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid DEFSPOUT - FiveStarDEF.com
It has a cap that fits most jugs on the market. The cap has a seal intended to be reused and seals well. What it does NOT have is the clever vent that is included on the spout that comes with the Blue DEF. I've dispensed DEF from the Blue DEF Jug using this DEFSPOUT and it works, just not as quickly.
I have only tried this setup on my F350, so I don't know how well it would work for your situation.
redbaron73: The 7 gallon kit is packaged to fit a USPS Flat Rate box that ships for $15.80, and the 1 gallon DEFJUG with DEFSPOUT and funnel that ships USPS First Class Package for $3.94. I'm not sure what shipping would be for a 10 gallon kit would be but I can find out.
Thanks for asking questions,
Erich

FivestarDEF,
thanks for the link. Before I order one, just want to make sure that it is 12 inches in length.
Thanks

FivestarDEF:
Do your jugs include the magnet that is required for filling at bulk stations? I have only tried it one time with a 2.5gal Gas can, and was so frustrated by the experience, that I gave up on bulk.
I like the idea of the jug with 18" spout, and plan on ordering one, if I know it will work at the bulk.

The DEFSPOUT we stock for retail jugs is a little over 12" long.
I just happen to have a camera and tape measure nearby
See picture.
If you want one at 18", make sure to add a note when placing the order on our website or PM me on this forum. If ordering on eBay, add a note that you would like the 18" long spout.
Regarding the magnetic interlock Nozzles:
Search the forum on "21Gu" for reading material on this subject.
The short answer is the DEFJUG does not have a magnet to unlatch the nozzle. As you probably are aware, it is possible to dispense from a magnetic interlock nozzle without the magnet ring but it pumps slowly. I agree this is a frustrating experience. Truck stops often have the 21Gu available to use at their pumps.
I'm working on a lower cost version of the 21Gu. So many projects, so little time...
Erich

redbaron73 ... do you know if Pilot/Flying J's need the magnet? That is where I would refill the jugs the most. I really like the 18" hose option. Will probably order the two (2) pack with 18" hoses.

I have been only to 1 Pilot / FJ where I tried to use DEF and it did require the magnet. I was not aware of the issue at the time, and thought I just had a broken pump. I was frustrated with the whole ordeal, as I had already gone in once to turn on the Diesel, and had to go in a second time to turn on the DEF. I just gave up on it and paid my $1.30 that I had put in.
I have since learned that when you go in the first time they ask you "truck fuel or refer fuel" you can respond "truck & Def" and they will activate both for you.
I have never looked into getting the unlock magnet from them.

I like the fact that Erich from Five Star Def always jumps into these threads with really good info and offers jugs that are safe for holding DEF. I bought two of his jugs and one spout.
Currently, there are no bulk dealers close to my house, but I figure that will change. I would like to be able to buy at least two jugs worth of bulk DEF rather than the Walmart stuff.
When we go on trips, other than local travel, I would like to have a couple of jugs ready to go to buy bulk DEF when I come across it. I figure if I find it at a diesel stop, I'll fill and top off my tank and fill both jugs.
I've used Erich's spout that I purchased with the two jugs and it worked well for reaching into the Dutch Star bay and filling the tank. Be careful about getting one that is too long or it can become difficult to control.

While looking at options for the def fill, I realized that one of the hassles was the placement of the hydraulic arm on the door.
While this is an important feature in protecting the bigger doors, this small door is rarely used and only when I am right there at the door.
I removed the arm and amazingly the fill process is so much easier!

redbaron73 ... you are 100% right ... this is a great idea. It's a new day in the DEF filling operations!

I purchased 2 of the 2.7 jugs from fivestardef after being told not to use the pump in the lane to my right. (once by employee and once by a big, mean looking trucker) Also, prior to getting my jugs, I had purchased 2 containers from WM and the fill hose on one had a break in it when I stretched it out. Now, when I stop for fuel, I select both, diesel and DEF, and I'm on my way. The only place I've had a problem and could not get DEF was last week at a Pilot in Bath, NY. When I asked the cashier about the magnet, she had no idea what I was talking about. Thanks 5 Star, you solved my DEF fears. Hurry up with that magnet.

Michael (Det3033):
Thanks for the feedback on the DEFJUGs, we appreciate it. I'm working on a few concepts for making the jugs work with magnetic interlock nozzles, and will have a product later this fall.

Hey Eric, why can't we just attach a plain ol' magnet to the fill opening of our container? What kind of technology is involved here that makes this so mystic? :-)

Slabman:
A plain magnet might work.
I need to buy or borrow an existing nozzle (and 21Gu magnet) to experiment with some ideas. These nozzles are quite expensive (although a bit cheaper at Northern Tool) and my CFO (lovely wife) has not approved a purchase yet
Since I'm planning to sell them, I need to make sure they work perfectly, and don't have any unintended outcomes (like falling into someone's DEF tank).
I have not encountered an interlock nozzle here in the Pacific Northwest, but then again I have not used many bulk DEF dispensers since I started making my own DEF.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Erich
Note: I believe the device in the nozzle is a check valve that is held open by the magnetic field of the 21Gu. Price for the magnet and nozzle are at http://truck-parts.ryderfleetproduct...rts/Def-Magnet
A US patent has been applied for which describes the device
