The new Alcoa wheel do not get polished. I think the name of them are the Dura-shine. They have a warning not to use polish in the owners manual. Be sure before you do use any polish so you do not cause permanant staining. Contact Alcoa for recommendations if it is not noted in the owners manual.

Aluminum wheels are clear-coated after the factory polishes them, to preserve the shine. Otherwise aluminum will get hazy in several months, due to the "self-protecting" nature of aluminum. Polishing aluminum wheels with rubbing compounds or strong cleaners removes the clear-coat and will require regular cleaning henceforth. If someone has previously damaged the clear-coat on your wheels, you are pretty much out of luck unless you refinish them, including a new clear coat.

Use Finish First Polish if it won't hurt your warranty. I won't hurt the clear coat and makes it MUCH easier to clean afterwards.

Mike, When you say the new Alchoa wheels are coated, what timeframe are you saying. I added Alchoa's Jan. '05, however I have no idea how long they would have been in stock. Is there a way to tell if they are coated?

We are sooooo confused...If our Alcoa Wheels had been clear coated, why would they have been so yukky looking from winter weather? And no products our dealers staff tried when we took delivery in late May made any difference...
Now we have them much improved but they are hazy looking,so we will try a good aluminum wheel polish....Any other ideas???

Paulmargde,
Did your Workhorse come with aluminum wheels from Newmar? I thought Newmar used another brand, not Alchoa. Do yours say Alchoa? Mine do but I added them later.

Yes,our MACA 2005 with W24 came with Alcoa wheels...We were concerned about the state of the wheels when we took delivery of our new coach at the end of May,and the dealer was unable to have them cleaned. But we are now happy to report that we have cleaned them, and today polished them, and they look beautiful at
last....

To find out the specifics of anyone's wheels, write down the numbers off the wheels and contact Alcoa for the recommended cleaning and if you have the newest wheels.

Thanks Mike. I'l just have to find the numbers. I would rather do that than use a cleaner on them and find out I remove some coating. Thanks again.

My hubby reminded me to say that our MACA was equipped with the Alcoa Wheels when we purchased it from the dealer in late May,but it was one of the options ordered by the dealer, not a standard feature....

If you have the Dura-Brite Alcoa Wheels all you do to clean them is soap and water, you do not polish these wheels, if you have the non Dura-Brite Aloca Wheels, I use Wenol Aluminum Polish. The Dura-Brites will never shine like the regular Aloca Aluminum Wheels. Ed.S
