Portable or extra Freezer

We are thinking about getting a freezer for, under our motorhome. I think the wires are there (there are wires rolled up in the first compartment on the passenger side) I If I understand it right they are for 12V and 120V when plugged in. Does anyone with close to the same year as our coach have done the same thing? How hard was it? And what model did you use? Our motorhome is a 1999 ds dp. Thanks for all the help

We have an Engel, it's been in 2 different coaches so far. 6 years and still going strong, I did replace the 12v power cord.

Not where we bought, just to give you a link.

We purchased an Engel AC/DC ; You can direct wire the unit into any DC line, also plugged it into 110V. If the 110 goes out the DC will cut in.
My unit has 5 setting on it. 1-2 very cold fridge, 2 1/2 up it is a deep freeze.
contact www.engel-usa.com directly in Florida. They will explain the until in simply details. Units are pricey but well worth the money.

We put less liquids in our side by side fridge with the addition of the Engel unit. By having less liquids in the big fridge we can get the temperature right down to 34-35.

We have an ARB 80 qt, that we purchased for our previous 5th wheel. It has some really neat functional features and is very power friendly. We now also have the OEM Dometic that came on our MHDP. I'm not sure what I am going to do with the ARB, but we like it so much, we are not going to get rid of it. I like it better than the Dometic, but the Dometic is on a proprietary sliding tray, so it will stay until it quits working.

I had ran a 12V power port to the back of my previous dually, to carry the ARB in the bed, when we were dead heading back and forth from Phoenix last year. It sure is nice to be able to pack and store frozen food, in a portable freezer.

We had one in the 2002 Dutch Star due to the small refer in it. It worked great for the 12+ years we owned it.
In the Magna we've got a 22cf side by side and the DW still insisted on a cooler/freezer in the bay. Bought an open box Dometic CFX 65 DX from Guaranty RV in Junction City. Got to AZ and went to plug it in, that's when I found that it had the wrong 12 V plugin plus no owners manual or warranty card. Just wrote to Dometic to see if they can ship out the correct cord.

We've had an Edgestar freezer in our 2000 DSDP for 5yrs. now. It's worked flawlessly. The only problem I had was jamming all the salmon in we caught on our trip to Alaska.

Ramets What model of Edgestar are you using? Did it hook up with the wires that were already there?

PDR John and I have two or 3 things in Common it appears

1: JOHN
2: Rvers
3: Engel Freezer

One of the first "Upgrades" and the only thing I have done to it in 10 years is blow the dust out... ONly problem I have had is with the 12 volt wires (I run it on 12 volts) that feed it,, NOT with the wires that came with it but one of the wires I added. This same wire feeds other stuff too.

Well, they will but I'll have to pay for it. Oh well, it's just money!

That's what the Dometic we bought does also as did the ones in our two previous Dutch Star's.
