Angie & I were avid ocean cruisers.............4-6 cruises each year. I knew some towns in the Caribbean and UK better than my own town!!
On a Trans-Atlantic cruise in 2013 we looked at each other and said - time to get off the cruise ships..........let's buy a "camper"!!
I/we had sooooo much to learn. Both of us being retired career military we knew we didn't want to rough it at all!! Period!!!! AC, bath facilities, hot water, kitchen, heat, comfort, - all required items.
Then the lessons in regards to "campers" started and I probably confused many a sales person. We looked at Class A, Class B, Class C.
Ok - lets get a Class A motor home. Oh wait - ! Do you want a motor home or a coach (Still not sure of the difference)???? Ummmm - I don't know - I want AC, bath facilities, hot water, kitchen, heat, comfort..........
Diesel or gas? Man - all I want is a "camper"!!!!!!
We looked at new gassers - in our budget - we looked at new DPs - ha - we are retired military and Federal Civil Service...........sorry, not even close.
We decided on a DP and just happened on our 2002 DSDP in great condition. It was 12 years old at the time, had 11,600 miles. It was well under our budget limit and knowing I was going to have to replace and update items, many because of non-use, we said - lets do it!!!
We weren't looking for a Newmar, it just happened to be the "coach" we ran into and liked....
Our lucky day - we love our Newmar Dutch Star - we get loads of compliments, people don't believe it is now 13 years old. Here in the Indianapolis area, RV shops are far and few between - so I have the factory 3 hours north when I need house service.....they have done a lot of work for us, quality work, yes - a little expensive - yes.
Now that we have been "coach-owners" for 1 year!!! LOL We now know a little better what we would like in our "camper".
So hoping our second coach will be our last coach we went shopping, I looked at new Newmar gassers - beautiful!!!! We looked at many used DPs, Newmars and other brands. In my view - not much beats a Newmar in our price range. Well made, quality materials, good service at the factory.
So we decided to keep our "coach" and in a few years when the current Newmar DP models come within our reach - we will go shopping. I would like a coach with Comfort Dive and we like the new floor plans. Will look at Dutch Stars - it fits us, our life style, and camping style.......love the sculpted ceilings and tuffed seats of the higher end models but just not us.
That's our Newmar story - there's nothing like jumping in the driver's seat, hearing the diesel power plant behind, and heading out on a new adventure.
So I am not sure who is out there driving our Dutch Star, I ask that you please take care of it for us!!!!
Thanks Newmar, and thanks irv2 and all the people who have helped make our "New to us camper" a fun and exciting experience...............
Glenn
