When I press the lock button, the baggage doors lock, the horn beeps, the parking lights and the dash lights flash then stay on for a few seconds; no problem.

When I press the unlock button, the horn beeps twice, the parking lights and the dash lights flash then stay on for a few seconds, but the baggage doors do not unlock.

The factory told me that to unlock, hold the trunk release button for 3 seconds. That works, but there is no horn or light confirmation.

It seems to me that the unlock button should work, but the factory said mine works correctly.

What say y'all that have this option?

One other feature that I don't recall reading about; When pressing the red panic button (accidentally in my case), the air horns and the electric horns blast repeatedly and the lights flash. Got my attention real fast. Red button does not stop the alarm, but pressing one of the other buttons does. I don't recall which button does stop the alarm, as I was pressing them all. I'm glad that didn't happen late at night.

It would be the "Unlock" button that would stop the alarm.
Your system sounds like it is working correctly. Additionally you can unlock the baggage doors using the keypad at the door entrance. After entering your code hit "8 or 9" one of them will automatically unlock the baggage doors.

Strangely enough I use my code and "7" to unlock the baggage doors.....I'll have to see if 7,8 AND 9 work.

I also was shown "555" to lock the coach...

Bob, I guess it's 7 for mine too which of course is also 8. I couldn't remember whether it was 8 or 9. Okay it is 7/8.
Yes to lock is 555 or 559 if a full code is desired to open.

I didn't get the keypad option to unlock the door, as I was told the remote would not unlock the door.

Does the unlock button on the remote have any function for you Essex owners?

If it doesn't, then I don't see why the remote is set up the way it is.

There must be a reason why it's done this way, and I wonder if it could be reprogrammed?

Yes the key fob for the Essex does allow for remote baggage door unlocking. I don't know if it would be as simple as just a reprogramming.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

Can you Essex owners use the remote to unlock the passenger door?

Does the top right door unlock button on the remote have any function for anyone?

Yes, the top right (*) when held for 3 seconds cycles the baggage door locks. The unlock and lock works for the entrance door.

Hi Peter! I always wondered what that did. As usual you have taught me a new trick. Your wealth of knowledge never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for all the great tips. Paul

Actually Paul, I stand corrected. The (*) button when held for 3 seconds only unlocks the baggage doors not cycles them. The baggage door will lock if you lock the enterance door with either the fob or key pad.
