Power Steering fluid and filter change

My Freightliner Maintenance Manual suggests changing the power steering fluid and filter annually.
Does everyone with a FL chassis do it this often? I had my previous coach on FL chassis for 11 years and never did this, and never had any problems. Annually seems a little overkill.

The manual on my 99 XC chassis , says every 6 months or 6,000 miles

Guess I'd better get at that , I'm 8 years behind.

JMHO: I can go along with a short interval on the first change ; to make sure any manufacturing debris is out of the system ; but after that , I'd think 3 years and 36,000 miles, should be good.

Looked on the receipt for my two year service in Gaffney and it says they did change the power steering fluid and filter.

Every year when it's time to perform the "annuals", i.e., oil & filter change,
fuel filters change, etc., I don't feel good about changing the power steering fluid & filter...but, because the manual calls for it, I do it. In fact, that was one of my chores today...& I can't seem to keep it "non-messy". Why it's necessary for our motorhomes and not for our tow vehicles, I do not know. I never do the change for my CRV "toad", or my Ranger pickup. Until I understand and feel confident it's perfectly fine to do it every other
year, for example, I plan to continue to include it among the "annuals".
