This might help. I just saw it on the weekly RVTravel newsletter.

I modified the RV power cord in the power Bay such that there is a short 3-4ft length with the male 50a end coming out of the Transfer switch connections like the original 30ft RV power cord had. I plug that small pig-tail into my portable EMS-PT50X and then take a 20 or 30ft RV power extension cord with the other side of the EMS plugged into the receptacle end of this extension and run the male end of the extension cord out of the Bay to the power pedestal. Then I lock the Bay with the EMS inside (effectively providing the security of a hard wired EMS but having the option that it can be removed/moved if necessary).

I use a cheap cable bicycle lock wrapped onto the pedestal whenever I think there may be an issue.
But most of the time, I just don't worry about it.
If it gets stolen I will be pissed off for a while but I'll eventually get over it and move on with life.

Hi,
My surge protector and power monitor are kept in the shore cord bay.

That's what I did.
However, I used a portable unit with our travel trailer for over 6 years and it wasn't stolen. I did have a small locking cable for it, but it wouldn't have taken much to cut it.

I bought 2 Locks. one standard size and one that had about a 3 or 4 inch shackle. And I bought about 3 feet of chain.
I wrap the chain around the pedestal and secure with the standard size lock. Then I take the 2 ends of the chain and connect to the Long shackle lock and slip that lock around the neck of the surge protector and close the lock.
Yes, someone could cut the chain, but I made it inconvenient to just take it.
Most of the time, I don't worry about it unless my instincts tell me to be cautious due to the surroundings in the campground.

Greetings, Frisbee-
I've been reading posts here on iRV2 for over a year and registered to post in August, probably have read thousands of posts and at least 5 different threads about potential surge protector theft.
Of those I recall *one* post where a forum user reported having his protector stolen. One.
If you're really concerned do the chain and lock as shown. If a professional thief really wants it it will be taken regardless. For amateurs, the chain will be seen as a speed bump and they'll move on to easier targets.
