Pricing; Dealers lot vs Special ordering

DW and I are very interested in the 36LA model and we are wondering what discount one could expect on these models. We know Tiffin are a bit higher quality than some of the other manufactures, are dealers less likely to discount as deeply on these then Winnebago, for example. Or is it all about supply and demand.

Is there typically as large a discount on a special order than buying out of the dealers inventory? They would probably prefer selling existing inventory but on special orders they would have no flooring cost. How much does that play into a discount on a special order.

If I may ask, what discounts have other owners received when buying out of inventory or on special orders?

Thank you very much for your insight.

Dirk

Did you mean to put this in the Tiffin forum?

No matter what forum it's on, I'd say the discount is the same. In my experience you should aim for 30%, and if you can't get it let your wife negotiate!

It matters some, because different manufacturers have different discount structures, so a number that's a good target for one make may not be feasible for a different make.

For a special order Newmar, especially at the high end, you should be able to get 28-30% off. Less for a dealer stock unit, usually. A special order from Newmar essentially costs the dealer nothing except for his time as the customer pays for it before the dealer has to. A stock unit will have floor-plan, transport and prep costs, so they're unlikely to sell it as cheap.

Hi DLoy1324,
It is not possible for a consumer to have enough pieces of this puzzle to make an intelligent decision/comment. There are just too many variables we have no view of. If you find a coach, in stock, that has what you want, then make an offer (signed contract) with a deposit check for the amount you are willing to pay. Give the dealer 24 hours to accept the contract or your check is void.

If you need to order, the process is a bit longer, but in the end when it comes down to $s, follow the above process to get the best price.

At this time, the 2013s are at model year end. One should be able to get 33% or more on a 2013. 2014 might be around 25-30% off MSRP.

Lastly, always be prepared to walk away.

This may sound strange but a dealer who has had a unit on the lot for some time may be reluctant to give a great deal because they have so much money tied up in the coach and are not will tp take a loss. We had that issue when we bought our 2007. Local dealer wanted to sell us a 2006 off the lot for $20,000 more than a 2007 that we special ordered.

Thank you all for insights. FlyingDiver, you are correct I intended on this post to be on the Tiffin forum; don't how it got on the Newmar one. Again, thank you for input.
