Princess Gas Cooktop Knobs

We have the Princess gas cooktop by Whale Marine in our DS. The knobs seem to be total crap as we have just finished breaking our second set of 3 knobs.

Has anyone else had problems with these? Iím beginning to wonder if the protective stove cover is leaning on the knobs and breaking the cheesy plastic collar that goes around the aluminum gas valve shaft.

We've had no problems with ours, except one time DW used a large skillet which held enough heat in to partially melt one before she discovered it was hot.

Ours melted a couple of times. I purchased two sets from a marine supply store only to have them melt again. Next time I stopped at an appliance repair shop to see what they might have for replacement. They brought out a box of used knobs they had taken off over the years from old stoves. I found two metal matching ones and have not had any issues since. Might give that a try.
