Procedure? Oasis Garber-R Filter Change

Hi - Prior to our Newmar, we had a combo electric / propane water heater and would appreciate knowing whether or not a new Oasis Garber-R fuel filter must be pre-filled with diesel before installation, or if the Oasis has a fuel pump that will self-prime the filter. Also, there are no fuel line shut off valves at the Garber-R remote filter housing, so is it safe to assume the lines are to be clamped near the filter housing to prevent fuel spillage?

Any and all suggestions appreciated!

THANK YOU, Jeff...

I have replaced my Garber R fuel filter several times on my Aqua-Hot and always prefill the filter using the OUTSIDE holes on the filter. I have it ready to install prior to removing the old filter so very little if any fuel is lost in the process. Never wanted to see if the pump would prime the filter as it might be running dry for a time and they are a very pricey component.

Jeff.....My filter is at the front of the coach near the generator. Due to the distance from the Oasis unit, I prefilled mine before installation. Just too far to worry about pumping fuel. When I changed mine, there was very little loss of fuel. I put a towel under it, had the new one ready to go, spun the old one off and the new one on.

When/if you prefill your filter, just place your thumb over the center hole and fill the outer edges to ensure the new fuel is filtered before entering the system.

Just changed mine this week. Remove old filter and place a coffee can underneath while removing the old O'ring and pre filling the new filter. Only a few drops of fuel came out after removing the old filter. Probably took 3-5 minutes for my entire process. I did nothing to the lines and there was no shut off valve that I could see.

Our filter appears original on our 2013 VTDP. Where can I get a replacement filter?

Thank you all! Sounds super easy and glad it is easily accessible!

Ken - just stopped by a local O'Reilly auto parts store and picked up a WIX brand equivalent that others mentioned in older posts. It is a WIX 33109. Any Napa will have the same in their house brand, part number 3109.
