Progressive Industries, NOT the company they were

In preparation for picking up our LADP last month, I purchased some new items. One such item was a Progressive Industries hard wired surge protector. During factory pickup, Newmar stated that they had issues in the past with that unit interfacing with the London Aire Silver Leaf and advised against installation. I did not understand how there could be interference but there was a strong recommendation on their part. Newmar suggested installing an upgraded transfer switch from the Essex that had all the protection that the Progressive unit afforded, so I went that way.

I have contacted Progressive Industries about returning the unit to them, brand new never out of box. After a month of emails and sporadically return calls, I was told today that I could not return the unit for refund. The reason given was that they have just recently been bought out and that I purchased my unit prior to the company changing hands. They would not entertain any form of return. Their web site touts their world class customer service, maybe for some, just not this case. I wonder how they will treat customers that bought units prior to the ownership change. Will they honor earlier warranties or will they go the way of the dinosaurs.

I feel for you, but most places won't take back electronic items. Why not put it on Craigslist and sell it. I'm sure after your post, someone here will want to buy it.

That's how we got rid of our USED Progressive unit. They sell fast!

I don't see it advertised in the classifieds. Like to know what he wants for it.

The problem with a used one is there is no warranty at all.

Dispute the purchase with your credit card company.

I had no idea Progressive had changed hands. Probably the end of great customer service that has been their hallmark. I've been wanting to buy a EMS unit, but have been trying to decide whether I want a hardwired unit or portable one. Now I'm not sure I even want Progressive...

I bought a used portable one a few years ago. Last year I physically damaged it by being stupid. I called Progressive Industries to see if they would fix it, and that I had bought it used. They said to send it in. I paid for the cost of sending it to them. I few days later I received a new one at no cost to me. I was both surprised and appreciative of their customer service.

Amazing. I doubt that will be happening any longer in the future.

Why? No company is obligated to take items back and that's especially true with electrical items. If the sale was made according to the companies terms and conditions they are not required to take the unit back and the CC company should side with the merchant.
We used to take CC's with our business, had a customer try and dispute a perfectly good sale on a perfectly good item. After providing a copy of the signed CC receipt we won and kept our $475.

I bought a used hardwired-30 as a result of reading a post on here. Turns out, it needed a new current sensor "doughnut", and I called Progressive to order one, fully expecting to pay for it.

Within two days I had one in hand, at no charge!

That was about a month ago, so I don't know which company owned them at the time.

Customer service was beyond my expectations. See:
Electrical management system

I don't know any retailer that will take back electronic items. Many stores even have that disclaimer posted. Same with online purchases.
Sell it online it will go very fast.
BTW I've always found Progressives CS to be first rate. I get calls returned same day. Even though Progressive has been acquired their staff in Cary, NC has remained the same.

This one has never even been opened. There's no reason a good company should not take it back for full credit. I do it every time it's requested, especially if it can be verified as never used (upon arrival at our warehouse).

Put it back on the shelf and sell it to the next guy that comes along. No harm no foul.

Though it is nice that your company has a liberal return policy, electronics companies often do not. Did you read their policy before making the purchase? Have they violated that policy? If not, get over it. Post an ad, including sealed on box, and you will recoup most of your money.
