Progressive Surge Protector

At my last 2 stops my 50A power has been fine. I plug in to my last stop & my surge protector keeps kicking out on 50A showing low voltage on Line 2. When I first plugged in it stayed on for awhile. Than it started kicking out & finally would not stay on at all. I've checked everything I know, so I decided to try the 30A plug & it stays on with no problem. Do you think it's at the post or in the coach? We traveled over some bumpy roads, but nothing extreme. My first thought was perhaps I had a loose wire in the surge protector or transfer switch. Any ideas?

Thanks

I have a progressive to protect me from bad campground power. It sounds like you have a bad circuit on the campground 50amp plug. Your progressive sounds like it is doing what you paid for. Change campsites and see if that solves the problem.

If the coach woks on 30 Amp, it will work on 50 Amp.

I agree with brobox. Your PI is protecting you from a low voltage situation that could possibly cause damage to some of your components.

Did you take out your meter and check the campground pedestal? Does it show low voltage?

Most likely a loose or burned connection at the campgrounds shore power. I had the identical thing happen to me after installing the surge protector and using it for the third time. I thought the surge protector had issues......it was the campground.

You checked everything.... Did you check the voltage on teh outlet (Center flat blade to each side) under load? Cause "Low voltage on line 2" often means that one side is low.

That said my "Surge Guard" (The one CW sells) often tells me Low-2 even though monitors here inside say: NO WAY.

Do you have the model with the remote display? If so what was the value shown for L2? When I installed the HW50C in our coach, I tried using a dog bone that I had bought with the coach. Long story short, I ended up with an L2 value of 0, and the SP would not engage. A call to tech support at PI, and we figured out what I was doing wrong . My assumption is that a plug that converts a 50 amp plug to a 30 amp plug, must energize both L1 and L2, or the PI SP won't work.

Are you saying I cannot use 30 amp power and still use my 50 amp PI?

I have connected to 30 amp pedestal in my 50a coach and the PI HW50C with no problems.

It was a case of operator error. I was using the plug I had, improperly. There is a 50 amp female plug. and two male plugs (one 30 amp and one 15 amp) on the adapter I was using. In my case Both plugs must be used. The the 30 amp plug supplies voltage to L1 and the 15 amp supplies L2. Since I had nothing attached to the 15 amp plug, the SP showed no voltage on L2 (correctly) and would not engage.

If I use the adapter correctly everything works fine.

Thanks for the answers. I thought it was supposed to work. I gave my 30 amp surge protector to my brother thinking I would not need it.

I may need to check into the other type of dogbone in case I need 50, but the pole only has 30. Will this work if the outlet is a 20 amp instead of a 15 amp?
