Because of the government shutdown, things may be a little different this year. Although, the LTVAs are officially closed there is no one there to enforce the closure, but this closure may lead to more people in campgrounds, which would have them be closer to full than in other years.

Then there are the free "14 day boondocking" areas. These may be busier that usual, but I am sure there will still be place to park for a night or two, if you are able to go a couple days without having to fill with fresh water, or dump your black and grey tanks.

As far as places not to go, I dont know where that would be.

The biggest issue is traffic during the show, so we usually stay at the La Posa Tyson Wash LTVA and drive our Jeep to the Big Tent, or we have parked at the northwest corner of La Posa West and walked the few blocks to the tent.

I doubt the shutdown will have much impact on the camping. About the only thing that might happen.....no one will be there to charge you. The few nicer campgrounds are usually booked a year out.

Depending on what you like to do, two days may not be enough. We typically arrive on Saturday and leave on Thursday. That gives us four full days, which is plenty to see the big tent, a couple of times, and visit all the outlying flea markets.

We like to walk the big tent and the booths on the outer edges and take everything in. We then come back one or two more times and maybe buy something we saw or liked.

Unless you get a spot across the street from the big tent, bring your bicycles or be prepared to drive around the big tent outskirts looking for parking. It's free, but tougher at times to find.

Bring food! There are really no nice restaurants in Quartzsite. There are a couple of BBQ joints and a nice breakfast joint down the street from the big tent. Keep in mind, all these places are old desert buildings that are only open for a few months when the crowds are there. There are a couple of fast food restaurants, like McDonalds and Burger King that service I-10.

Lastly, there are two exits for Quartzsite, on the east end is a nice Chevron and an AM/PM with big rig access. On the west end, is a truck stop. In the middle of town is another Chevron that can take a big rig if you're competent in tight places.

Thank you for the info.. I can be self sufficient for a few days. Didn't want to haul a trailer just to bring a car, so if possible, would like to find places close enough to park the RV. Could use a bit of walking.. looks like the gas stations are good enough, did find Love's truck, that seemed to be a good bit away for walking. couldn't find the other gas stations on the map, looks like plenty of desert space to park!!!

and will be bring along food.. thank you for the heads up.

is this address the actual location of the big tent?

Here's some good information on Quartzsite. We always stay at Scadden Wash BLM - 14 day limit. Rice Ranch RV would be extremely close to the big tent and other vendors. I don't know if they take reservations but try to make them, if so. It's a busy place for just a gravel parking lot but it's location, location.

You mentioned Love's truck stop and walking. Don't plan on staying overnight at the fuel stations. They are extremely busy.

I'd recommend bringing the car and spending more time. Take some drives out of town to some beautiful areas.

There's an Arco station at the east end of town that has plenty of room and best prices in the area.....the big tent is right next to the 95, just to the south of I-10.....no freeway access at that intersection......if coming from the east, the first exit will be where the Arco is......then you want main street, which if you went to the Arco, will be back toward I-10 at the stop light....turn right and at Arizona 95 there'll be a light....turn left over the 10.....and start look'n for a place to park....
