Question for Macerator Toilet Owners

If a Macerator toilet grinds up the contents flushed would this relieve the need to use use single ply sandpaper ...er toilet paper and substitute a gentler variety?

Thanks Steve

Add several gallons of water before your first flush, in order to keep things from sticking to the dry bottom.

Use plenty of water while flushing and you'll keep any kind of TP in suspension.

A macerator reduces having to do this, so you're good to go, IMO. These comments from a former boat owner.

P.S. if your coach is equipped with the black tank washdown, use it. Those tiny bits of paper stick to the sides as you empty the tank.

My theory is that the important decition to make, is to pick paper that disolves easily once it gets into the tank. You can get double-ply that will do that. Paper that doesn't disolve easily will risk acting like wallpaper in your tank, and you could risk a build-up that is hard to get rid of once/if this dries up.

I am sure that the macerator will deal with small amounts of both single- and double-ply, but this would not be my primary concern when chosing type or brand.

There is no need to use harsh toilet paper. We've been using Scott toilet paper in the house and RV for many years. Scott may not be the softest, but it's far from rough. Take any toilet paper you like, put two sheets in a jar and shake. If it dissolves, it will be fine. The Scott paper breaks into little pieces instantly.

We installed a Sanicon twist-on system with gray water bypass. It will chew through 2-ply paper with ease.
Had a grandson stuff about 1/2 a roll down the stool. Added extra water and pumped it out - no issues.
We do have a tank cleaner -use it every dump.
Also, a clear 90 before the macerator to see what is going, if it's going, and when it's empty.

We have used Angel Soft two ply for 4 years with no problems. As stated above put a sheet or two in water and shake. It should dissolve within 30 minutes or less.

Quilted Northern-septic safe works well with our macerator toilet. Happy to have stopped having to use the expensive RV sandpaper 'er I mean toilet paper.

I guess I should have been clearer. We are not having an issue currently and we are using 2 ply septic safe paper. What sparked my question is that when I am flushing the blank tank I will occasionally see a piece of tp exit on the second flush. I always flush once more if that happens (and I do fill the black tank when flushing). My thought was that a macerating toilet should grind all that falls within the bowl of death. This, I would venture too guess, should reduce all the tp to pulp

Maybe you have a lazy macerator OR its missing a blade or blades are dull.

DW likes the Charmin (super duty whatever) and it seems to do fine with our macerator toilet. I know that when I empty the black tank, I see only liquid coming thru the clear fitting I have on the slinky at the dump outlet. I always flush the tank generously after dumping. I figure the macerator grinds up the paper pretty well.
