If you get just the standard radio without the $1K optional nav system does the radio have the ability to connect an ipod? Is it a CD player?

I ordered the Garmin RV 760LMT.
Product info states you can customize for height, weight, width and length.

First 400 miles of my trip done, ran the Google maps next to the clarion just to see. Both gave exact info. I enjoy the clarion Lane guidance and exit info. The fuel calculation is pretty decent as well, currently about 6.9 mpg. This is at a constant 70MPH.

As a GPS unit, I found that it works as well as others. The only downside is the size of the screen, it could be a little larger. Often, you need to check to see how you have the GPS set. You can get some goofy directions when you select shortest versus fastest routes. One of the things the Clarion does well is to identify the correct lanes, with a display when a turn comes up. In 19K miles, it's been pretty accurate.
We've always run two GPS units while driving. I mounted a large Magellan unit near the passenger window that my wife operates and I can see. We map the main drive into the Clarion unit and my wife can find things like rest stops or other points of interest on the Magellan as needed.
Lastly, if you want to upgrade, check out the Pioneer units. They have several models that will fit the opening. They range as high as $1000.00. I previously had a Pioneer AVIC D-1 that had features, 10 years ago, some radios are just now getting. It was a great unit and came with a small peanut shaped remote that attached to the curve of the steering wheel. It allowed you to adjust volume and repeat driving directions, along with other controls, right at your fingertips. Some of their high end radio/GPS units still offer the remote.

I agree the quality of sound is lacking as it comes from Newmar. Although I haven't changed out the stock clarion speakers, I did add a Kenwood sub woofer and that alone made a huge difference. As for the nav it works but certainly not user friendly.

Spoke with customer service Friday. If you opt out of the clarion system, the standard radio "sticks out and is not nice looking" and the clarion is the only one that fits the hole and looks flush.
The clarion offers a 30 day free upgrade. I was told it uses
Rand McNally maps, so I asked why it wasn't the rv specific RM maps like in the good Sam GPS. I was told apparently not enough customers have asked. Pretty lame to have a car GPS map in a half million dollar rig. I believe the KA has a different setup. My guess is that the clarion doesn't have the setup buttons that would be necessary to program height weight etc. into the unit to make the Rv maps workable. If I owned Newmar the unit would come preprogrammed with the coach info. Hint to mgmt...

We us the Garmin nuvi in the Chrysler 300, the Garmin RV LMT in our rig and the Garmin Montana in the Jeep. Been testing the LMT lately and going to the VA hospital in Togus Maine, it told us the hospital was in the rotary in Augusta. Had to use google maps on my phone to get there. Can't tell you how many times the Garmin has taken us off the main highway, through a set of street lights, then back onto the highway. It takes us from the Main Street onto side streets through residential neighborhoods then back to the Main Street. Really disappointed in Garmin. Been using google maps on our iPad lately and have added the low clearances app to it and been the best so far. Use apps like Allstays and overnight parking for rv specific spots. No silver bullet out there yet that I can find. Will get a chance to try the clarion in about six weeks.

Maybe the only reason they install the Clarion is because it looks better than the standard radio and does not stick out but they charge you extra for that. I used mine 1 day and turned it off 2 years ago. I have a new London Aire ordered with the standard radio and I expect it to look nice.

Both the standard Sony and the Clarion are 2-DIN radios so any 2-din head unit should fit that hole.

We are currently trying to repair our NX501 as our Sirius is no longer working. But, staying on the gps theme- my maps were out of date and the monitor had me driving in the open fields. I contacted navie who informed me my unit was given 5 years of free updates and the calendar began in 2010 so I was out of time for free updates. I wrote an appeal email as my Ventana is a 2013 with a manufacture date of Jan 2013. I'll share the response when I get it.

We're currently on the first leg (1500 miles) of a 7000 mile trip. The Clarion has been flawless We left Los Angeles, stayed on I-15 until we reached Provo and then started zig zagging to Rushmore and now in Wall, S.D. The Clarion has routed s on the best roads so far.
