Since all you're doing when pressing the test button is checking the battery and sound you have no way of knowing if the detector will actually work unless you actually check them under the condition they are supposed to detect.

That is correct just do not blow up the coach when turning on cook top gas, do not need a lot of gas, will drop to floor level where the detector is..
You can burn toast for smoke alarm, run Gen for CO2.

Mr D - curious as to why you went away from the propane gen set? I assume your using a diesel now? For extended stays, is it easier to add diesel to your tank than to connect a propane bottle?

Propane uses about 3 times as much fuel as a diesel unit and is usually louder since they are mostly air cooled. The propane tank in our 2000 DSDP was only 40 gallon (32 usable) so I could only run the gen set about 30 hours before needing to refill. The present diesel is a 12.5 KW unit and uses about the same amount of fuel but I have 150 gallon tank to draw from and it's easy to carry a 5 gal jug of diesel rather than toting another 10 gal propane tank.
Plus with the propane unit and air cooled it would blow the breakers when it got hot. the one we have now is liquid cooled so no problem.

To update this thread, I cleaned all the filters in the return air vents (they were dirty) and the bedroom a/c seems to blow a little better. It sounds different than the front a/c and that makes me wonder, but it may be working just fine. There is no access to the bedroom a/c from inside the coach, but there is access to the front a/c, so maybe that's enough to make them sound different???
Now the starter on my generator wants to hiccup. A mechanic friend said he'd look at the brushes. Hopefully it's that easy.

Tonight I lifted up the plastic cover on the Penguin over the bedroom. Can't see anything without also removing the cover over the blower and I didn't have that kind of time tonight.
