Have a 2005 Kountry Star. While boondocking in the Wallow Mtns of eastern OR...just the place to never find a radio mechanic, the 6 slot CD went nuts and toasted it's self.....took it out and it is a GMC device....what is best replacement and why

CDs and DVDs pretty much died out over the past couple years ago.

Car radios capable of playing USB flash MP3 audio seem to be the popular media these days.

Go to Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras and take your pick. That is about the largest collection of options on the net.

MOST all dash radios now days are one of two or three sizes

Din, Double DIN and Tripil DIN.

Crutchfield has 'em. And they likely have the adapter harness so the job is"Plug and play".

One thing to be aware of is that the GM brand of radios used in older RVs may not be a true "Double DIN" size. In my 2007 DSDP the radio is identified as a 1 3/4 DIN size. I found this out when I did a search on the original model radio that was in the dash. Try finding one of those (and when you do let me know where you found it). Bottom line, just don't assume a double DIN will fit. Do some research before you spend the cash.

Go through Crutchfield. If you can use a screwdriver you should be able to replace the radio with a far superior unit. Crutchfield will tell you what type radio will fit and then you can decide based on your budget. The will send you wiring adapters and a radio adapter(if needed) and excellent instructions for removal and install. I have used them for over 30 years and have had great results
