Rear/back up camera replacement
Has anyone replaced their rear camera ? I have a 2004 Newmar Kountry Star 33. I removed the cover and brackets holding the camera but I can only pull the cable about six inches and there is no connection or disconnect. The old camera is hard wired so the connection must be somewhere down inside the back of the coach. I tried pulling hard but was afraid I might pull the connectors apart within the wall.
I crawled underneath but it is all foamed shut with just a few small wires coming out. None look like the larger cable coming from the old camera.
I looked all over the inside back wall but could not see any access place between the inside bedroom wall and the outside fiberglass.
I called Newmar tech support and the person said the camera wire comes out the bottom, but I did not see it when I looked.
I really appreciate your help.
Dave

I replaced my backup camera last month. The pigtail on the camera is about six foot long, give it a good pull and look in the pass thru for a bundle that may have a cable tie on it. I have a 2001 Dutchstar dp.
Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try pulling harder tomorrow and hope the connection comes out.

I wouldn't pull to hard may have other wiring come out you do not want removed.
The connector maybe hung up on the shoe shelf if you have one.
Cable will run through the ceiling area and can not be pulled through the ceiling.
Here is more info on rear camera's.

There is a connector on that camera. About 3 feet as remember. I put a new system in my coach last year, and used the old wiring, works fine.

Well, I was able to pull about three feet but then it would not come any more.
I was thinking of letting some soapy water run down the cable inside to maybe help it along ?

You may have to run a new cable...I ran a new one also. I ran the new one down the inside of the frame rail and up thru the closet. If you do, be sure to seal everything back up.

I had a a similar situation recently and went the wireless route. It has worked well for me for about 3,000 miles so far.

Look behind the shoe shelf
I took my shoe shelf off for an entirely different reason to access what's behind it. A big cavern of space and I noticed the camera wire is right there. If yours is setup like mine, it took four screws to pull that shelf out, just have to deal with the insulation on the back.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry, but what is the "shoe shelf" ? Where are the screws ? Outside or in the bedroom?
Thanks again,
Dave

It's that shelf in the back of the closet. There were four *very* long screws holding mine in. I've attached a pic…

Yes, much different. I would think there is some means of accessing what's between the rear wall and the rear cap. The space between there on mine is all empty minus the insulation.
I only stumbled on mine by looking around and discovering those screws and decided to pull them out to see what happens

Yahoo...got the camera working ! My error was thinking the woven metal shield around the white wire was just that, a shield. I decided to try it as the ground, and it worked !
So happy to have a back up camera that works, even if it is only black and white.
Thanks friends for your suggestions. It was my lack of electrical knowledge that caused my frustration. Life long learning for me. Haha
