We have a 2002 Kountry Star and the thick white coating on the aluminum arm of the outside rear view mirror is falling off. Similar to chipping paint. Is there a way to repair or does it have to be replaced?

Thanks Pardner,

Not having seen it, I would venture a guess that it's powdercoated. If not then its baked enamel. Either way, if you can remove and disassemble the mirror from the arm, then you can go to a local shop that does powdercoat, or get it painted.

Welcome to the Newmar forum mradamsr & irv2.
Parkerrs has it correct needs to be painted, the paint will keep pealing as road salts get under the paint finish.
You can try to spray paint it yourself after fine sanding just protect the area around.
If you take it off MH just disconnect wiring and paint shop can cover mirror when painting.
I have same arm will be something to look out for.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.

If you paint it yourself then you need to deal with the chipping properly. Either completely strip the old paint before refinishing, or you need to feather sand the eges of each chip to make them gradually transition instead of being a hard edge. After feathering the edges of the chips prime the bare areas with a high build primer. Sand the unit again to get a smooth and even surface. Repeat the prime and sand procedure until the surface is smooth and uniform. Now the part will be ready for paint without showing the previous imperfections.
